I've replaced my old Alpine with, well, a new Alpine... but I can't decide on speakers
I don't have have an elaborate setup, just front, rear, and tweeters... no sub, so amp.
I'm basically just replacing factory speakers...
I have a budget of about $250... Currently leaning toward Infinity... Any thoughts?

If your thinking the infinity reference series, don't even bother unless you have an amp. The hu doesn't have nearly enough juice to move them.

Aye, I'll probably end up with Alpine... the Infinity sets I was looking at are on sale so I am tempted, but in the end I just trust Alpine.
I really didn't want to install an amp... will I really need one if I'm running a set of 5x4 and 6x2s?
Ugh didn't want to do that...

  :wtf: :umno:

ok, my point is, that the above statement, is, well, an uneducated statement. Basically, you are saying, If one has an Alpine HU, then Alpine speakers and such will net the best sound? cough-cough-bs-cough-cough

There are many, many brands/grades of components that work extremely well together.

Infinity Reference series will work fine with no amp. Refs are the "entry level" Infinitys, if you will. Kappas, and Perfects are another story. Infinity Reference REF6012I are 60w RMS 6.5" loudspeakers. There are also the Reference REF6012SI which are Shallow-mount 6.5s, and are rated at 50W RMS.

I, personally, am a huge fan of the Infinity Kappa and Perfect series loudspeakers and drivers, but I use Pioneer head unit, and ADS, Nakamichi, and Memphis amplifiers. Best thing to do is go listen to various speakers at car audio places, and try to use the same type of head unit as yours, to test with. Also, remember, that the speakers in the store displays, will sound a little more "full" than they will in the car. Reason is that they are usually mounted in a wooden, often sealed, enclosure. The car doors and rear deck are flimsy, and hollow, so the bass response will be somewhat less. Remember, if you arent budgeted for an amp, then listen to speakers without the use of an amp. Don't create false hope for yourself.

Good luck.

Not true

RMS is the KEY....

Replacing stock speakers with high powered aftermarket ones with out an amp is useless no matter what the brand of HU or speakers.

There have been a lot of threads to cover this in the past....... If your not getting to get an amp, try looking at the infinity referance series, or pioneer ts-g series, both would be better with amps, but would work

Just put infinities (front and rear) in my friends Sentra two days ago. They sound very nice. They're very clear. The only thing is that they don't put out a lot of bass, even with the +3db switch. But they're very clear =)

Clear is better then bass mudding up the sound.

if youre going for sound quality...

$250 wont get you very far lol, sorry to be a d**k but facts are facts.

I personally like the Diamond Audio speakers, my LOWEST line diamonds sound better then most alpine/kenwood/infinity mid-high end speakers ive heard, and mine are even un-amped.

You'll be spending about $325-$330 for Diamond D3 integrated front components (6.5"), and Diamond 6x9 2 way rear... theyre roughly $180-$190 a pair, plus tax and such.

Also, if you go Diamond, DO NOT buy online... they dont authorize online sales, find a local dealer (you can do so by going to www.diamondaudio.com and clicking find a dealer)

As for bass, you wont get any with a good set of door speakers, dont even try, thats how you get most of your distortion and s**t... if you want bass buy a small sub setup.

Not to jack your thread but I'm looking at the same thing. I have a stock head Unit and want to run Infinity kappa's with an amp all around. i don't want the weight of a subwoofer in my car. What amp would I need for just the 6.5's and 6x9's?

:word: Diamond makes the best speakers I have ever listened to personally without stepping up to high end Boston Acoustics. I have a friend who has the D3 6x9's in back, and D6 5" components in the doors with a flush mount setup for the tweeter. All running off a diamond amp, it cost alot of money, and we dynamatted everything, people ask if he has a sub and are amazed when he says he doesn't, diamonds are crystal clear and have amazing bass in their 6x9's, components sound amazing. they are worth the money

oh yeah, if your budget is 250, just wait a little while and save up, seriously buyign low end speakers will cost you more in the long run cuz they tend to blow really easy, and you will end up buying a second set at least, I have made this mistake before. If that happens you are spending just as much money as you would have if you had just bought good quality speakers in the first place, and now you have the same garbage speakers again, jus a bit of advice

really?

My full D3 setup sounded WAY better then my cousins acoustics IMO.. My full D3 integrated setup (6.5" front, 6x9 rears) also suck bass wise though... but im used to my 2 12's, Diamond CM3's ran by a Directed D1200 mono channel, lol... when people ask if it bumps i just say "well... discs that dont spin skip, so i would say so." since all my f**kin mp3 discs skip all the damn time even :(

Im going to be upgrading to Diamond D6 components all around, with 2 diamond d3 400.2 amps to power them. Going to be INSANE. Cant wait.

and cvcc, seriously... go diamond, i GUARANTEE you, you wont be dissapointed.

Oh, and i just did a full Diamond Audio install in my dads truck...

D3 front components with a 400.2 amp, and 2 diamond d3 8's with a 400.1 powering them. Ill have pics up sometime later on. The truck has highs that'll make your ears bleed, with no distortion... I LOVE IT!

:???: well if that was true then companies like Polk, MB Quart, Boston Accoustic, Cerwin Vega..etc... would not exist.

Get a set of Polk db650s
Their RMS range is 6 to 60 watts so you can run them off the head unit.
They fit easily.
Their sound quality is exponentially better than the factory crap Pioneers.
They should be about $70.00. Throw in a Dynamat kit and you're still in under $100.

I replaced the factory "Infinity" speakers in my wagon with an old set of Polk GXR6es I had lying around and they are far better than the OE "Infinity"s
dbs replaced the GXR6 in the Polk lineup so I can safely assume they will be even better.
