i know this sounds weird but do you have proper amount of oil? also, check your fuses under the dash. check wiring. if it is cut, that will throw a cel too.

Have you checked whether 7.5A dash fuse 15 is blown?

A corroded or bad VSS plug is a common problem. Try cleaning the plug terminals and then packing the the plug with dielectric grease. If all else fails, get a VSS plug at a junk yard and replace the old one.

whats the proper oil level in tranny? what if i have too much? the oil level in the tranny is sits below where the vss cylinder makes contact and i have lifetime warranty on the vss which is a plus and the fuse is good no blown fuses under dash my rpms still work just not the speedometer or the miles

The MTF level would not cause your problem.

A blown 7.5A dash fuse 15 would not affect any other cluster gauges, except the speedometer. However, if fuse 15 were blown, the charge system light (battery symbol) in the cluster would not turn on when the key is turned from off to the ON(II) position.

Inspect the VSS plug and then pack it with dielectric grease.
