speedometer stopped working

i just recently put in a autometer tach. all i did was tap into the factory tach wire and left the wire to the factory tach unhooked. would that cause my speedometer to quit working. andy answers or know where to find answers would help. thanx

Why dont you try plugin in the wire to the factory tach?

i did go into the factory tach wire but then left it unhooked and only the autometer tach hooked up

so if i read it correctly, you spliced into the tach signal, but didnt plug the harness into the cluster afterwards? if im reading right, then put that harness back into the cluster, that plug does more than just power the tach

if you plugged the cluster in correct, then its very possible that your autometer tach sucks more power than you original tach did. especially if its one of them rediculous 5 inch ones. this power loss could cause one or more other gauges to stop working from loss of power. folow the instructions on how to install the tach. or, you may have screwed something up inside the cluster. open er up and try again.

that's exactly what i did, and nothing is wrong with mine.

no it is still plugged into the cluster but i didnt splice the factory tach wire back into the autometer and harness wire
