For best results clean everything well and wear rubber gloves. You really only need about 1k grit if what you plan to paint is fine as is. Wash it with dawn or comet or both together. Scuff it down with the 1k. It's best to shoot an adhesion promoter on next. From here by the book you should use primer, but since its just rattle can you could skip that step and go right to the paint. If you car is say white, shooting primer over the black makes painting white take less costs of paint, but if the car is black, black covers black easy lol. Read the cans.. Give enough flash time. Less is more, don't try to get full coverage on the first coat. Again read the cans if you flash it correctly you can just clear over the paint as is. If you are outside the window you will need to scuff the paint for the clear to stick.

This is kind of a quick way, you can do a ton more steps for better results, but I don't think it's worth unless you have showroom fresh paint on the car.
