So, Ive been looking at the MOMO steering wheels lately, but they dont have airbags, so my question is, first off all, its illegal not to have an airbag right? Second, is it worth to sacrafice safety for looks? Im guessing no, but I know alot of you have aftermarket wheels, so Im looking to hear from you. Also, if Im going to go with a new steering wheel, itd probably be the MOMO monte carlo with an nrg quick release, does that sound like a good combo?

It isn't illegal as far as I know though it could be illegal in some states. You should check into your local laws since California in particular has shown itself to be a bit overbearing with some laws.

It's not even illegal to disable an airbag in an otherwise stock vehicle. Many SUVs and trucks in particular come with keyholes in the dash to turn off the passenger airbag. It is also legal to get your driver's airbag disabled.

i'm pretty sure it is illegal to disable an airbag in a car originally equipped. the passenger side switches are different, they're for the safety of kids and aren't they only in trucks because they don't have back seats? my friend got a fix-it ticket for an aftermarket wheel once. get an s2000 wheel or something like that with an airbag, looks better anyway imo

So far the only trucks I've seen with those key disablers in them had rear seats.

I think as far as the country, as far as the normal laws go, that disabling an airbag IS NOT illegal. You both live in California though and I have reason to believe (just from past laws) that those laws would be different than most of the other parts of the country.

After some looking around online, I found out a bit.

In California it is illegal to disable or remove exsisting safety equipment in a car that is already (as in stock) equipped with said equipment. You can apply for permission to disable the driver side airbag if you're somethign like under five feet tall.
