strange voltage

ok, so i have this weird problem. my voltage drops from 14.0 volts to 12.7 when the car is running. it doesnt happen at first when i start the car but later on after a few mins of driving. if im on the gas and over 3500 rpms it stays up at 14.0 but if im cruising down a residential street at low rpms it drops. but heres the really weird part if im in like 2nd gear and and i let off the gas in high rpms the voltage goes back up to 14.0 as the engine loads down. ive checked my grounds and all my wiring running from the bat. and alt. and they check out, im wondering if my voltage regulator in the alt. is going bad. I did notice that sometimes the voltage stays up at idle and sometimes it drops to 12.7 also when my fan comes on it goes up to 14.0 from 12.7. any ideas would be great cuz im sick of my lights going dim everytime i slow down, it also affects the interior lights too but not as much as the headlights.

It's quite normal for the voltage to fluctuate as the electrical load varies with changing RPM...

might turn out to be a bit of work, but may I suggest getting the alternator tested at your local auto parts store?

Get a Haynes or Chilton manual for specifics on removing your alternator if you decide to go that route...

i checked the alt. last fall and it passed the bat. is borderline but still test ok the weird part is the fact that the voltage stays up when i take my foot off the gas and stays up till i clutch at any rpm range i know the power outp[ut will flux given the rpm but it shouldnt go below the min batt. voltage of 12.6 or else it will rob juice from other areas of car possibly ignition
