Since more people seem to be in General Tech i felt the need to post here and not wait forever in the suspension section so if it needs to be moved, please do, on the the situation....

So im taking the bolt that connects to the suspension out of my rear lower control arm to swap in the new coilovers, get the socket on, ok have to smash it on that works, go to use my really long wrench and it wont budge. so i clean off some of the grime and crap off to get a better grip for it and what do i find....its stripped to hell, basically just a circle now. So i did some research and found these sweet bolt grip extractors, but i want to see if anyone had any experience with them, are they worth the $25??

are there any other things that dont cost as much i can use? or is this my best bet

here is the link to the set

Yes use a penetrating oil before anything. Let that soak in. I would try those extractors first. If that doesnt work, then try filing down both sides a little bit, then using vise grips.

ive used the same irwin set that you linked last summer. it worked okay for a bit on the bolt, but it was such a long bolt that it tore back around it and stripped it more fml.. so luckily we got it out, and even more luckily my friend paid that 25 hahaha

so i ended up buying those irwin sockets and they work great gripped really well, but didnt take the bolt out until i torched it, with a little persuasion from that and a lot of yelling at the bolt while pulled the wrench finally got it off

when that happens to me i usually use a die grinder and split the nut in half. i think ive already at least loosened all of my bolts. i know ive had all the front ones out. and i think the backs are fine.

i went out got a small torch and heated it up, once it was pretty hot i threw the right size socket from that irwin set in my initial post, it worked great since it was hot i was able to loosen the bolt amd those sockets work great, gripped right into the stripped bolt

i will probably invest in a set of those this winter. planning on starting school for diesel and automotive mechanics in the next year or two. have to wait for the fiance to get her school done first.
