i have a alpine CDA 9886 head unit, Type R 6x9s, Type R 5 3/4s, and a PDX 5 Amplifier in my civic. the amp is only powering the components right now. it's a 5 channel amp and it has 300watts set aside for a sub(s). any suggestions on what i should go with?

300watts isnt alot to work with but you can get a nice little 10" P3 by rockford fosgate..since the mas RMS for that sub is 400watts. It should sound decent... Iv never played with the Alpine subs but they have their 12" type S subs that are 300watts rms.

Definitely Alpine type E or R. Duh. The E is rated for 250 rms, but I promise you it can handle 300 easy. The R would be to go on the safe side. Also the R has more rigidity than the P3 and is about $30 cheaper. I plan on running the PDX 4x100 on type R's all the way around and a type R sub on the PDX 1x600. Kudos for having the 5 channel.

I've heard very good things about w7's. A lot of good names have been dropped, if you follow any of these suggestions you really can't go wrong. I wouldn't suggest a P1 or P2, they are pretty weak. I've also had a P3, that was very decent.

Not enough power...and it would not do it justice on that amp...I have a thread of my 10W7 you may want to check out...sub is AWESOME...I have a Kicker ZX1000.1 hooked up to it...

You should be able to get a Powerbass XL10D for about $50.00. That and a decent enclosure should get you in under $100.00. They're pretty popular in Europe and seem to be of okay quality.

I got my Polk Momo 10"s for $49.99 ea. on sale at Fry's. Don't know if you could get that price but they've been hella durable and move plenty of air.

But if you are not concerned with price that much I would just continue with the Alpine theme you've got going. :thumbs up

RMS or Peak, figure that out first, then match the RMS of the amp to the sub

...i ended up going with a 12w1 from jl audio. i paid like 230 for sub + box (ported). they hit pretty hard but my trunk rattles so i think i need to get some dynamat. i actually got harassed by some cop for playing it too loud last night...f**kin pigs, i hate em! i'll take some pics and post em up (of the sub not the pig).

So the cops are pigs because you had your music up loud...doesn't sound right...not to mention a W1 isn't that loud...I am wondering how you got in trouble...

no no no listen to this man right here. the RFP3 is by far one of the best subs for for a begginer, get a 2 channel amp and bridge it, the RFP3 is made for bridging and dont get any of that alpine s**t there s**t sucks balls. diamond or rockford fosgate. with a ported polyfilled box. i used to be a audio dealer and we did this setup in my friends civic to sell them and we sold a s**t load of them when ppl heard it in his car. trust me you wont regret it.;)
