Most of you know I drive a Mustang hatchback.. Im in the stage of where I'm about to get some subs installed, and I want to just install a custom box (Cheap until I get money to do a real nice one). I got a matter, me and my dad bumped heads, which usually happens, but anyways, how should I put the sub box? Should I put it agianst my back seats facing the rear window, or should I build it so it faces towards the front of the car, I heard alot of mixed answers, some saying it sounds better facing the window, and saying it sounds better facing the front.

What should I look at doing? Facing the front, or facing towards the rear windshield.

O, in case someone asks, I'll be using 2 12" 900 watt subs, with a 1600 Watt Amp. Don't know if that makes a difference or not..

Always towards the rear.......away from the seats. If you build a custom box you can always design it to point towards the glass.

twords the rear, i had a very nice custom install in my old 91 accord, you'd open the trunk to a custom built amp rack with matching RF sheild amps flush mounted and when you folded down the rear seat the subs were flush mounted there in a custom box..... very clean, sounded great, but the bass sucked..... always wished i had the subs facing the rear.......

allways face the subs twords the rear....

Towards the rear will get you better quality sound and actually extend the response of the sub by a Hz or 2. but you will ose a couple of db's overall.

However if you face it towards the front, it will 'hit' harder (im mean obviously its facing you directly) and give you more db's USUALLY (*every car is different)

Its up to you. It sounds like you have some serious power going to them so I dont think facing the rear would hurt too much db wise.

i agree with joe, todd and the other guys, facing it toward the rear windshield will make it sound better because it lenghtens the sound waves and at the same time reduces the cancelation of the waves, thus produces better, clearer sound.
What components are you using?

Hope this helps

Thanks guys, I'll build it toward the rear window. I'll get to work tonight on a 3ds Max build up of how I want it to look.

Metrik High Performance 900Watt Woofers, Pheonix Digital 4 Channel 1600Watt Amp.. Not big names, but some audio shops told me they are up and coming names.

My box sits towards the trunk. I heard that if I would angle it up towards to back winshield they would sound better.. is this true?
