Wats up, im lookin to swap my stock d16 with a dohc. Im still thinkin of which engine i should get. B16 is alrite with alot of money put in, B18c is more money and better but i heard they give you problems, and the one im leaning to now is a H22 i can get one for around $1,200 legit, but then i'm gonna need enjo mounts ($550) and the enjo driveshafts($800) plus a new ecu ($50-150) and a new vtec harness or harness work dunno how much that is. Thats almost $3000 and i can get a B18c for $2500 legit and installed for free. What you guys think? The B18c is gonna get more attention and people might steal it. H22 would be quicker in my hatch compared to the B18c rite?

the b18c would not compromise your handling as much as an h22 would, and if you can get it cheaper than it would be for the h22 i would go for it.

If you are worried about people stealing your s**t then dont show it off! I know a guy on another forum who also lives in new jersey and had his 89 civic si hatch with b16 stolen and when they found it the interior was stripped and the motor was gone.

h22a is a pain in the asssss to swap in...its not made to fit...atleast the b18's are a b series engine. h22 needs alot of other things changed not just mounts and stuff. most hoses need to be cut to fit. electical is a b***h on that swap. and plus there are more aftermarket parts for b series so why go h22?

an added bonus is u get the b18 for cheaper!

---IMO---

I would only get the H22 cuz its different and no one really has that in a 96-00 hatch. 200 hp/156ft aint that bad either. It might cost some more but it'll PROLLY be better in the end. I wouldnt have to put too many aftermarket parts on it and most aftermarket parts are available for H22's, Wiring wouldn't be that much hard work either.

Is this your daily driver? I've heard some not so good things about H22's in daily driver's, too much weight up front was the big on that I kept hearing! Anyways, it seems like more people are now steering towards the 1.8, but if it was me I'd go B16. Just my $.02.

you first thought of h22 now ur going down to b16...why not go wit b18? more torque than b16 but less money to swap in then a h22

don't go with an H22 unless you only want to make a drag car and have a bank account to back up your investment. do a b18 man, they're such a great engine. the b18c5 is the first motor EVER to produce more than 100hp per liter in a naturally aspirated setup. the GSR c1 is close for a cheaper swap.

also, don't rule out and ls or ls/vtec setup... they're a little bit more work, and have some bugs to work out... but i've seen LS/vtec hatches WORK gsx's 1.8t's with little or no mods.

just a few weeks ago my friend beat an E30 M3 in his ef hatch with a bone stock LS. think about torque when you do the swap... it's what you're looking for.

with the h22 swap you will have to completely upgrade the fron suspension to suport the almost 200 pounds more that the h22 weighs over you single bump stick motor. IMO go witht the b18c1. Best bang for your buck. Plus better aftermarket support, means endless posabilities.

Ls....hmm never thought about that one. Ls motors are cheap and are pretty nice and later on i can drop a port+polish b16 head on it to make a Ls/Vtec. That would work right? What else would i need to make Ls/Vtec...a oil hose or sumtin right?

don't do the h22... they aren't good engines. I have a 2k prelude which I'm going to have to put new sleeves in. I'm burning alot of oil and losing compression in two cylinders. H22 cylinder walls have some silicone or something coating that makes them wear faster. The B motors are much more reliable. I've taken my car to two of the most reliable shops in the area and they both say the same thing. I'm either gonna have to put in alot of money to build the motor. Because of the cilicone lining, I can't just bore the cylinder, I gotta resleeve it... then new pistons, might as well get new rods blah blah blah... I got a JDM c5 in ma hatchie and I love it. It would smoke my prelude on its best day.

dont get a damn h22, u gonna be sorry..for one thing it doesnt even fit right because its not a b series...and its hella heavy and will weigh down the front end of your car, and yada yada....and who says swaping another b series isnt reliable? whoever told u dat must be car illiterate
