So, I'm REALLY wanting to swap my automatic to a manual. How hard is it going to be to do, and approximately how much would it cost me? Any advice would be awesome.

One tip of advice. Make sure you search on Google before asking on a new thread. Many of the users will tell you to Google it. Its been done so many times before so there's bound to be a bunch of write ups out there. Just search.

I know, but why not ask people who already know instead of coming across a bunch of dork-tools on Google? Lol
That's why you look at multiple write ups not just one to get more than one way of doing it.

And look at what I found in 2 seconds.

Seems like a good write up and the poster even tells you to pm him with any questions.

Main reason is because this site and others like hondatech have been around for more than a decade. Something like this has already been discussed many many many times. That is why there is a huge bar near the top of the forum asking for new members to search before making a new thread.

OK, on to more relevant help and not just forum help

^ Parts list. Szady and I did an auto to manual swap on my Civic a few years back. It took us a weekend, and cost me about $800 for all the parts.

Hardest part was installing the clutch pedal. Hard to work under there. Other difficulty we had was due to rust. Removing the automatic gear control was fine, but we needed to use a dremel to remove part of the body to get the shifter through. Normally you can unbolt a section to put the shifter up, but mine was completely rusted.

Car works and runs fine now, only difference is that I never changed out my auto cluster, so the P always stayed lit. Wasn't a big deal to me though IMO. Other than that and the fact that I never wired up a clutch safety switch you could never really tell the car was automatic at one time.

you think it's any different in here lol
 :D We are the dork-tools that show up when you search this stuff. More than likely it is going to be us, hondatech, or some other major civic forum when you use a search engine.

So hold on, this one's been bugging me for a while....you can use and trans from any civic 96-00 right? Life say I wanted to swap my 2 door ex for the trans from like a 4 door lx? Or a 3 door dx? (Though honestly I'd probably aim for another ex trans, could I use a 5 door ex?) I know this is sort of a stupid question, doors shouldn't matter but I wanna play it safe as this is something I'm actually considering, and it's pretty expensive IMO

Basically, almost any 4/5/6th gen d series trans will bolt up to a d series engine. The difference will be how the clutch is actuated. The easiest thing to do is find one nearest your year and anything sensor or anything like that will be the same (although you can still make it work).

To answer your question though, no the amount of doors do not matter. The difference will be if say it's an dx or hx, those have longer gears but you can still bolt it right up.
