Hey.
So I know there have been postings regarding this but I just want to make sure of something. Are the SIlverstars brighter than those bulbs which have blue tints around the bulb lens (which make the headlight housing blue during daytime) and gives it that "super white" light at night? Basically, are they more whiter than a blue tinted bulb? I don't really care much about having a blue tint on my light, so just making sure if they're more brighter AND whiter. Thanks.

Thanks. Would you say it's a good replacement for say a 6000K HID, since I really want to get that but can't =).
Do you think it's brighter than those aftermarket blue tinted bulbs?

hey bud...
the silverstars are the best bulb replacement for your oem bulb...
i have them installed and due notice a huge difference of the stock bulbs....
they are brighter then the blue bulbs you see. the reason why the blue blubs might seem brighter thoguh is because our eyes are drawn to the colour of the light thus making it apear brightere when it realy is not...
overall the silverstars are a great buy, and available at your local canadian tire.... lol
studies show it is the brigtest bulb withouight going to a hid system

Brighter? Yes and No. There are also bright blue bulbs that are also in the market. The sylvanias are bright white, with no hint of blue. Switching from stock to these will make a huge difference. The light output verses real hid's cannot compare. Remember, these are still halogens, but still perform excellent for being in a halogen family.

I actually have 2 pairs sitting in the closet.

they aren't bad at all. Thought the life of the bulbs do not last as long as regular halogens, they are pretty white and bright. It's no replacement for HID, but if you can't sum up the big cash for the HID, these should hold u in for awhile.

If you're looking for long term investments, nothing beats the real HID. the ballast of the HID kit has an output of usually around 10w where the regular (even silverstar) bulbs will want around 55w, depending on what you get. with HID, you'll use up less of your electrical system while having brighter lights.

Overall, they aren't too bad

i got silverstars in my car right now and i had them for over a year. i had piaa before and one of the bulbs blew out in about 10 months. they are brighter then oem. a very little brighter then my piaa i had. the piaa i had was 4300k or 4700k..i forgot but it had a white light and very light blue tint. when i switch to silverstarts i notice its a white light with very light green tint. that is why silverstars are the bright oem replacement.. green light are known to shine better then blue.

Thanks to ALL your responses. Appreciate it. I'll go get a couple tomorrow morning, from my local Canadian Tire (BBProductions, I found them on their website =) ). I guess if I don't like them I can just return them. But thanks for your opinions.

I want to get HID, and I COULD....but to be honest, it's too much maintenance involved to make the (expensive) kit last...and ALL just to get light. With day time running light involved, the bulbs will burn out a lot faster than they should. And I really don't want to disable that feature. So therefore the decision to stay with halogens remain.

LATES!

They work awesome.

Pricey but worth it in my opinion.

Got them from good old Canadian Tire. Imagine that lol. It's a Canadian Instituition.

they're nice, but the problem is if your HID is not factory, its not street legal

I can tell you this for a fact, its a federal law that states all HID lighting used on the street must be factory installed.

spencey is right, they aren't legal unless they came from the factory. HID are only legal if they are used off-road, not on the streets.

yet people are still putting on the kit with no problem. I guess kind of like how some people mod their cars in california with non CARB parts and still not get pulled over ;)

it's not false 100%. compared to regular halogens, the silverstar will not last as long when comparing with the same condition. It's the nature for bulbs such as the silverstar or other tinted bulbs to go out quicker. Granted some will last longer than others, but it isn't going to last as long as some would wish for it to.

For what it's worth, Sylvania will even admit they do not last as long and they will tell you it's the nature of "high performance" bulbs. When you have a tinted bulbs, the blue filtration film will actually prevent some lightwaves to pass though. And because the film can actually act as a heat barrier, heat itself will stay inside the bulb and what better way to burn out a bulb by heating it.

Compared to regular halogens, you'll need more current to produce the same light output as an uncoated bulb (yes, the nasty yellow-white bulb). But because the silverstar may seem brighter, it needs more current to produce at least the lumens of regular halogens.

and also, the lifespan depends on the condition. likewise, a year for these silverstar is not rare at all. i've seen situations where they lasted only 6 months on some cars and 1.5 years on others.

silverstar does look much prettier than the yellow looking lights though
=)

Got them, returned them

SORRY GUYS...but I got the silverstars today. I put one side on, while the other side had my current super whites (with the blue coating) just so I can compare. Compared to what I have now and the silverstars...man are the silverstars yellowish. The ones I have now are pure white with a hint of blue. The silverstars ARE DEFINATELY BRIGHTER but lookwise they really fall compared to the white ones I have now. Seeing how I live in a huge city as Toronto, I don't have to worry about light brightness as much, so I'm gonna go with the what I got now and return the silverstars.

All of a sudden 6000K HID's seem to be more appealing.
