Well i got 800$ saved up and i'm thinking i might start to piece together my system. First off is the Alpine CDA-9855 Head-unit worth the extra $100 opossed to the CDA-9853? Everything looks the same, just a little different display from my knowledge? if you know other wise please explain. Also if i buy new components the Alpine type X (SPX-177R). and some Alpine Type R 6x9" (SPR-69LP) speakers... do i need a 4 channel amp to power them, if so what alpine amp would you suggest... or for that matter any amp... i want quality but price is a factor. Thanks Guys

*PS* i'm plannin on doing them individually meaning i'ma buy my head unit... then when funds arrive i'm ggointg to buy the speakers and amp... thats ok right?

I don't know about the headunits, my guess would be the 53 would suit your needs. You should definately power the speakers with an amp though. The head units only put out 18w RMS and those type x component speakers are 60w RMS. If you are spending the money on putting component speakers in your car you should power them in an amp or not even bother. You will probably blow them out in a matter of weeks without giving them this power, not to mention they will sound like ass compared to their potential fully powered.

yes, if you're running those components you definitely need a 4 channel amp.

and the 55 is a better deck because it has 4 volt preouts, where the 53 doesn't. if you're getting type x speakers, you're going to want the 55.

are you looking for somebody to tell you that you don't need an amp? You do.

hahaha - that's funny.

from anyone who's going to give you good advice, you'll see the same thing.

"Don't be a d**k!" (it's a commercial - nevermind :D)

Yes, amp. Hey, you could always just buy my DVD player... nicer than the 55. mwaha!

actually, if you are looking for an Alpine deck, The one akiahara is selling is probably hands down the best stand alone unit Alpine has built.
Blows away the 55
If you are going to run type x components that dvd player is the best sq deck that alpine makes.
And it will hook up to all thier processors except for the f status.
you should hit her up on that ;)

Personally, I'm not a fan of the 9853, or 9855...that whole glide touch thing doesent do it for me. Also we have had alot of those two come back in because they just stop opening...you press the open button, and it says open, but nothing happens.

I say go witht he older alpine, take that one for sale (if you already have amps for those speakers, or if you plan on getting some later on, which you def. should) or find the alpine 9835, from the people I know who have it, I have heard nothing but good things.-It also has that nice display like the 9855

(or you could buy my Clarion DXZ835MP im about to sell ;))

I have heard of places having issues with the glide. I have never seen one come back through at my place. The only issue we have had with a couple is no audio during cd play. Irregardless of the setting of the internal ic.
Still the best deck in my opinion.

its a pressure sensative strip on the bottom of the deck where the presets are that gives you control of virtually all commands fuction of the deck by sliding your fingers across the botoom

I got my Crutchfield catalog yesterday and saw the glide strip for the first time. It's a great idea, but I don't think I'd like it in the long run.

Yeah, I use the remote when I surf the satellite channels when I'm in traffic. The comedy channel is a nice relief when you're sitting in stop and go traffic.

i have a 53... wouldn't recommend it. it looks great... have no probs, but audio controls suck. the older ones had nice eq controls... the new ones only let you have eq presets... sux.
