turbo auto d! hey guys...i got somethin for all you turbo guys. im still new to all this turbo stuff so if i can get an opinion and some better knowledge from people that know what theyre talking about, id appreciate it. (Cause ppl around here think they know everything) Alrighty, i have a 96 civic ex with a D16Y8 and auto tranny. Everyone tells me i should just build the motor and turbo it with the auto tranny. Im still not sure if im going to turbo it or swap a B into it. Most likely a motor swap. but either way i want to know about a turbo. but a couple ppl say i could "turbo an auto", "cause its nothin different than a 5 spd you just have constant boost" Not sure what to think about that. So are these ppl a buncha idiots or are they correct? lemme know guys! thanks in advance!

the auto transmission cannot hold boost such as the manual transmission, something to do with the gear setup I believe (and torque converter). Someone with more tech knowledge will fill you in on the details.

umm, the "its the same as the manual tranny except your always in boost" is retarded, why in the world would you always be in boost because you have an auto...your not

auto tranny wont hold as much power

If I'm not wrong, the clutch bands can't hold the extra torque/HP without slipping. But if you plan on boosting just a little, say 8 psi. It'll be alright. On stock internals that is.

no difference btw auto and 5spd
one of the least true statements ever.

If you boost on the auto, you need to at least get a tranny cooler to help cope with the additional stress.

Anybody who tells you to just build the motor and boost the auto, is an idiot.
