T3 from 280zx

Hey, I have a wrecked 280zx in my garage. The turbo on it is a garrett T3 that has maybe 25k miles on it. Should I put this sucker on my d16? I would only be looking for maybe 5-7psi max and would rather keep my stock internals. Should I do this? Will the reliability of my d16 go down the drain, or will it still last 300k miles? Will the power increase be worth the time? Heck, will 7psi even get me an extra 40 hp? My first questions are more important than the last question.

as long as you don't boost more than 8psi on stock internals, you should be good. Just make sure there's no shaft play in the turbo and you should be good...

P.S: Anything you do to put an extra strain on the motor will most likely reduce the life of a motor. That would be the least of my worries though...

It really depends on how many miles your engine has.. If you've got 200,000 miles, you may be digging out a new grave for your D series (depending on how well maintained it was of course).

But it's neither here nor there, tuning can make or break you. It'll be a learning experience if nothing else.

Oh, it's not incredibly bad or anything. Just got hit on the rear passenger quarter panel when an idiot ran a red light. Insurance totaled it out since it was an 82. I bought it back since the motor and turbo only had 25k on it. That was an awesome car. 180hp in such a light car in 1982 must have been a monster. That Z was my favorite car of all time.

start with a compression and leak down test for your motor to see if it can handle any boost at all
