Test pipe in place of cat/flange question?

I just ordered a Yonaka catback for my 96 ex with the d16y8. I also picked up a 99 ex stock exhaust mani to replace my DC 4-2-1 because I want something nice and quiet. I need a new cat because my current one is too rusty. The exhaust I ordered is 60mm. How do I know which test pipe or high flow cat will bolt up with the stock mani and Yonaka catback? I have a high flow cat sitting in my garage but both ends of it are 3 bolt flanges when the mani is 2 bolt at the end. Help please!

IDK about the Yonaka but the majority of bolt on cat backs for any car have a stock size flange on them where they meet up to the Cat.

It says direct bolt on fit on it and the flange is 3 bolt so it looks like it should work on a stock cat. But I can't re-use the cat that I have now because I can't get it off of the catback I have on there now because the cat flange is so rusty. So how do I know what test pipe or aftermarket cat will fit in between the Yonaka and the stock headers?

Basically all I want to know is what test pipe will fit both ends

Lol so you say you want something quiet but you want a test pipe? your logic is flawed. Just put your cat back on it wont matter if its rusty.

As I stated above I can't even get the cat off of my old catback.. You can't even see where the studs are because it's all just solid rust

Just get one that is made for a 96-00 EX and that's all you need.

go buy another cat....plain and simple...

either that or cut one flange off, go to a muffler shop and have them weld the correct flange back on the test pipe

cut out the old bolts, its quite simple process. Or if you cant then take it somewhere. Cut mine off due to it being rusted and then put some stainless bolts in its place. No need to go around without a cat just because of some rusty bolts.

Using a test pipe will not be quite by any means. The cat can significantly reduce noise.

Ok I'm going to see what I can do. I saw that an invidia test pipe with o2 bung is only about 40. There is no way that stock headers, test pipe, to Yonaka catback will be louder than 4-2-1 headers to cat to 2.5 inch pipe to Apexi n1 muffler with no resonators

I ran stock header with test pipe on my Magnaflow exhaust and it was stupid loud. The cat makes a very big difference. I put the stock cat back on and it made the exhaust sound much better. A header doesn't do a whole lot for sound on our cars, so going back to a stock header probably won't quite down your exhaust as much as you might think.

Ok I picked up a 99 ex header for 20 bucks and it's in really good shape. My DC hang too low and I bottom out on the headers way too much so that's the Main reason for going back to stock

take the old one to a muffler shop and for 20 bucks they will cut out the old bolts...you are making this wayyyyy harder than it has to be

Is there anywhere you can buy an oem replacement for cheap
Your best bet is probably classifieds or a junkyard. An aftermarket high flow cat would probably be cheaper than OEM. I got a Jackson Racing cat for like $200.
