yeah i sure would hate to see my civic on fire like that thats why i always tell people bye on my cell phone before i pump gas b/c that could set a blaze too as i heard and always make sure i ground my self before i pump my gas

When she got back in her car, electrons and protons were exchanged between her and the seat. When she got out of the car, she didnt ground (or neutralize) herself before grabbing the handle. The static didnt have a direct link to the gas, rather it had a direct link to the metal handle. Once she was close to the handle with her hand, a spark jumped and ignited to fumes.
