Wassup guys/gals,

I was curious as to how strict Canadian laws are when it comes to modifying your car.

Like here in California we (or at least i do) get s**t from the coppers all of the time.

I get pulled over for the bloodiest stupid reasons!!!

Here's a short list of some s**t I got pulled over for:

Excessive muffler noise

Loud car stereo

No front license plate mounted on the bumper (even though i had one displayed on my dashboard) I still got a ticket!!!

Window tint being too dark

Window tint strip on the front windshield too thick

A warning about my car being too low (wtf?)

etc, etc.........

Do the cops up there give you guys any s**t for stuff like that or are they more relaxed about it???

i got pulled over for an enlarged exhaust tip (wtf, mines not big at all), and too low.

i don't like tint so i guess it saved me from 1 extra ticket. but yea the cop woulda given me a ticket for illegally driving an orange car if he could

I'm in vancouver area and theres tons of modifieds here. They mostly go after the street racers. Ive never been bothered and I have clear corners, apexi n1 exhaust, and ultra whiute fogs and havent been pulled over. (ive been pulled over just cuz i was in a bad neighbourhood and they were wondering what im up to but never said anything about the mods). From those that I know from cali, its quite a bit stricter there

I think it's really retarded that cops go and waste their time (and ours) by harassing us just because we like to fix up our rides.

I mean, I can understand if were out there doing dumb stuff like burning rubber, running red lights, or endagering civilians and s**t but all were doing is expressing ourselves through our cars!

Don't they have better things to do like go after rapists and murderers???

It's literally racial profiling for automobiles!!! You don't see too often off the lot sports cars getting s**t or how about those loud ass Harley Davidson's which sound 100 times louder then any cars muffler could ever be!!!

If you ask me, the laws needs to be reviewed and revised because it's too goddamn riduculous for them to be wasting our taxpayers dollars to go out and harass us humble and law abiding tunerz.

Unless you're driving like an idiot, they don't bother pulling you over. Modded cars tend to have more attention drawn towards them, whether it be loud sounds from subs, exhaust or flashy paint jobs, kits etc....so cops will see those modded cars do something wrong, more easily than they'd see a normal stock car.

I suppose that's just one of the cons we will just have to accept.

But I gues like with any sport/hobby you get into, there's always going to be negative aspects to it.

it's not so much that they don't have better things to do. it's the idiot street racers that go bombin around and killing people that get us into trouble. i've met a lot of nice cops, some that are actually into the whole import thing. it's just unfortunate that the bad apples that don't keep it at the track get us all into trouble.

I'm in Winnipeg and I've been pulled over for not having my front plate on. The cops are horrible when it comes to modded cars. Every sunday people drive around and show off there cars on one street. One Sunday they set up a checkstop stopping EVERY single car that looked modded. It is unbelievalby stupid.

ok i only live about 80 miles north of the thread starter and i have never been unjustly harrased because i drive an import. All of the times i have been pulled over in the civic have been for legit reasons (40 in a 30, failure to yield, running a red light, lic plate light being burned out) and the only time i was pissed about it was for the lic plate light, because there were no other cars on the road and im guessing he was bored and didnt have anything better to do than bother me.

ALL of the times i have been pulled over a cop has never ONCE said anything about my exhaust, clears, or anything else about me driving an import.

This leads me to believe that a lot of import enthuasiasts who b***h about the cops bothering them usually did something to deserve being pulled over and then the copo chooses to give them a lesser charge of a fix it ticket or something rather than ticket them for whatever moving violation they were commiting.

Well, I can't speak for those other import enthusiasts but all I know is that I don't run red lights, blow by stop signs, exceed posted speed limits (especially when in congested areas), burn rubber, make illegal u-turns, or anything else dumb that would otherwise cause me unwanted attention.

I guess I just must have really bad luck to be pulled over for my mods regardless that I haven't made any moving violations.

So you can exclude (at least for me) the idea that I must have done something to deserve being pulled over. I do have however two personal theories, well actually three:

1. Racial Profiling

2. Bored Cops with nothing else to do

3. Or filling Quotas

Melt, I certanly hope that you don't ever experience some of the crap I have.

another thing is it just could be plain different down in the south bay. I bet they have a lot of problems with street racing and stuff so they could indeed be profiling.

I go to school in a pretty big town (Concord) and even there, i am always speeding and never get bothered.

Profiling is exactly what it is Kazuo.......cops dont get bored with their job, they just look for new ways to make it interesting.....like harassing moded-honda drivers for bs reasons which may lead to something else that is bigger...ie. drug posession, dui, etc.
And that Quota thing is the biggest nationwide rumor ever started......there is no such thing as filling quotas.....least that's what I've been told by my po-friends.

*warning--only use this if the cop is being a complete azzhole and YOU KNOW the only reason you were stopped is just to try and find some chump charge against you. Also, REALLY familiarize yourself with the law in your county/state*------
Next time you get harassed, aka profiled, by the man....try explaining to him/her that you are familiar with the law, and what they are doing IS profiling........really ask/grill them why they pulled you over, and make them recite the law as it is stated the given reason.......
Now the laws here in Nebraska are pretty much exactly the same in cali, and I have used this once.......ONCE.......and the next thing the cop told me was---"Nice rims....have a nice day"---and left. I also pulled out the attourney card tho...which he knew my attourney cuz he's in the paper here ALL THE F'in time, gettin people off on stupid charges.......I was charged with reckless driving one time, which was dropped to just a speeding ticket, cuz in the report the cop said I was racing against another driver, but I was the ONLY car on the road....it was like 3am....stupid cop.

I've actually been pulled over because, "It sounded like you were going fast", his EXACT words.

I've also been pulled over because the cop wanted to know what i had done to my car. The guy was really cool. He had a newer mustang GT at home and really liked my exhaust and stuff.

Sometimes you just run into the assholes on a power trip and sometimes you get the nice ones, the only problem is that the nice ones won't usually pull you over, so you remember all the assholes.

actually there is such thing as filling quotas. On the news recently here we were told that they lowered the traffic cop quotas so that the cops could concentrate on other crimes happening around the city.

Well, I know that in Canada *at least NB* there are quotas to be met. And I too have been pulled over for looking like i was going to fast. Its a pain to be harassed by the anal cops, but honestly there are some really nice ones. At a road block one night, the guy admired my car and the dedication that the import enthusiasts put into their cars. He said he would never pull over a car because the tint was too dark, or there was no plates. I had 98% grade the whole way around, and no plates on the front AT ALL. It all depends on the cop
