Thermostat Housing Mini Emergency

Hey Guys,

Really need some help here. I'm visiting my uncle in and I live 3 hours away in. I have a 98 Honda Civic DX and we were doing some minor maintenance including changing the thermostat. We took out the first bolt on the housing (top) no problem but the second bolt (bottom) snapped with half the bolt still stuck in the water housing unit! We have the tools to drill it out but since its an awkward angle we tried to remove the entire water housing unit that connects to the block but of course the top bolt also snapped! So now I have a snapped bolt on the thermostat housing unit and one at the water housing unit (that connects to the engine block) I need to get this figured out tomorrow as I work the following day. So here are my questions:

1. If I can get my hands on a second entire thermostat housing unit (both sides) can I slap in the thermostat, connect all hoses and mount it alongside the old one?

2. If I have to use the old unit and I connect the upper bolt can I use some sort of airplane cable or other method of alternate connection at the bottom bolt to keep the unit working properly?

Guys I'm really in a jam I do have access to a handful of tools but nothing really special.....so if there are any ideas please feel free to share.

Thanks
