Thinking ahead- Speakers?

So here soon i'll have myself a very nicely taken care of, stock manual, red 96 civic hatchback. For cheap. Like amazing cheap. Been looking for this break for a while.
I will have to put virtually no money into the car from the get go since it is in such good condition. New wiperblades even. Anyhow, about the only thing i am not extremely excited about is the sound system. Stay with me here, because i don't know much about engineering and i'm not by far into racing. I just like civics and rollin around with a bumpin car.
- I know that i am gonna want the type of sound system that cuts up the different frequencies to tweeters/mids/ and subs, but beyond that i do not know much about how to install them or what sizes i may need for my particular vehicle.
- i suppose like my old car an aftermarket molded plastic speaker cover/mounting thing may be necessary? Many of the speakers i see online seem to have a much different shape.
- I have a decent radio/usb capable unit that i bought at walmart a few years back. It always worked great for me. Would this be compatible with the type of speakers that i want? And would it improve the quality significantly if i invested in a High end radio/cdplayer box unit thing? (in other words, could i run good speakers with a 100$ aftermarket walmart unit without affecting the sound quality significantly?)

SO- i'm posting this and then continuing my own research, but any advice/ help/ references would be greatly appreciated =)

Took her for a test drive today....
smiled all the way.

Please search first.

But to answer your question yes you could, but it won't be high quality. Your head unit probably buts out 18-22 watts RMS to each speaker. The quality is going to depend on your speaker. If you are asking these questions, please do more research before buying. Audio can get very expensive. If you want the quality you are talking about, your cheapest option is going to be around $400-$500 without a sub and that's putting it really cheaply. I've put together quite a few systems ranging from these $400-$500 cheap ones to $3000 just for daily drivers. And you can tell the difference, so it depends what you are looking for exactly I guess.

In my 96 civic right now I am running a cheaper set up consisting of
-Polk dxi 6500 component speakers in the front (tweeter like you want etc, being pushed at 100rms)
-polk dxi 690 coaxial speakers in the rear at 100rms
-alpine 1043d subwoofer in a custom made sealed box
-amp for speakers is an old custom amp I had pushing 100rms to all 4
-rockford fosgate punch 600.1 amp for sub.

With the free amps I had already this cost me around $500
Amps seperately would be another $300-$500 for some decent ones.
This is all plenty for the small space of a civic.
Wiring is one of your more costly things. The head unit isn't going to be running a set up. The amp is going to be powering it all and the quality will be from that.
Your question shouldn't be will it run it. It should be, will my stock wiring handle over 50watts rms?.

I hope this info is helpful. I kind of rambled on being at work writing this, but feel free to pm any questions that you may have. I don't know what you are willing to spend or are looking to get out of your money.
