ok, so SIR, B16A. on to the good stuff

noticed a tick at idle, it did it when i bought it, allthough it sounds like a normal idle sound. Im not 100% but i've noticed it has gotten a bit loader. again not certain on this. my idle is steady (800) car runs smooth, tranny shifts fine.
i checked my oil and its on the add line now, two days ago it was in the middle. does hitting v-tec eat some oil. as i assume it would but i would never guess this much? also, im obviously going to fill my oil, but will this cure some tick? also, timing belt was done recently. car has 111802 KM's on it

First, never let the oil get that low. Check it regularly and top it off. The low oil could be causing the tick.

Second, is the engine leaking any oil? If so, wipe the engine clean to allow you to pinpoint the source of the leak.

it is actually leaking from the oil sending unit. im just waiting for the part. should be in tomorrow, which will go in with the wheel bearings and belts. however i hear that b seris engines tick? its a constant tick at idle, i dont notice it much as i start driving.

I would 't be surprised if topping off the engine with oil eliminates or greatly reduces the ticking noise.

Last time I heard an engine tick noticeably, I was driving a car with a spun bearing. Not saying this happened to you, but just a heads up. And likewise, the oil level in the car was dangerously low....

Valves need adjusted maybe?

That is what it was when mine was ticking the last time. Cured the problem pretty good after doing an adjustment.

The first time it was ticking, it ended up being the distributor. Threw me off and had me searching all over.

yep i would go with valves if the ticking is still there after topping up with oil.

So i checked my oil this morning (after letting sit overnight) and my oil is about two hairs from the full hole. is this from all the oil getting to the pan? when i checked it last night it was right after i came home from driving (1+hour of driving occasional V-Tec) anybody have any insight?

you should never check your oil after driving. it should be checked when completely cold to be as accurate as possible. the only thing I can think of as far as ticking, would be valve lash. How loud is the ticking? If you were to put your ear up to your valve cover, does it sound like something is hitting/ticking under the valve cover?

its loud, but its a constant tick tick tick tick, with the engine idle. just regular b series tick? i cant really notice it when driving.. and once in the higher RPM's its pretty non existant

Before buying any engine additives, first adjust the valve lash. If that doesn't work, next buy an inexpensive engine stethoscope ($4-$5) so that you can pinpoint the source of the ticking noise. For example, determine whether the noise is coming from the head, block, injectors, distributor, or drive belt area.
