recently got a 94 civic dx coupe. the previous owner put a new water pump timing belt and tension pully on. and it will sometimes at idle it will pop at idle kind of like popcorn. i checked the timing and the marks are not under the pointer. if your lookin at it staight on like a clock and the pointer is 12 and when the light flashes its at 2ish. so i don't know if i did it wrong or what.car was opertating temp timing light had 3 wires pos neg for batt and i cliped the sparkplug one on the number 1 cyl which unless i am wrong is the one closest to timing belt. still kind of new at this stuff so any advice would help thanks

when you had the timing light on there did you move the dizzy to try and adjust the timing?

The best way but not the most efficent way is to redo the timing. The person before might not have had the marks lined up correctly. You could try turning the dizzy to retard it a bit but it might not be enough to correct the issue. But if you remove the t belt and realign all the timing marks then you know for sure.
