Tire Size and Rim Advice

Hey!

I currently have 185/50/15. I want to get either 16's or 17's. I like the low profile tires look. My tires look so fat and chunky. I want performance out of the tires as well and reliability of them. I need some advice on tires and rims to get (tires size). I am a noob about all of this. I know it is diameter and rim size. But I have no idea what it would look like. I need suggestion for rims and the right tire size help. Any good sites to order them would be great!

I personally think that 17 is too big for an EM2, Im going to get 16s for mine, but if you like it then go for it.

On that...it was wrong. Stock is 185/65/15.

If I go for 16s? What tire size should I get?
If I go for 17s? What tire size should I get?

I want a low profile look. Any suggestion? Not so much rubber...

I might do that. Could I get a quick explanation on 205 vs 185? and 50 vs 65? like going wider or smaller...etc.

205 is wider than 185 obviously and it'll give you a slight gain of traction(it'll look better too), 50 vs 65... id go with something between 55-60, since the lower the profile tire willmake your tires look skinny on top and may not go well with the drop you have and have a bigger gap.

and if you dont have a drop before getting anything bigger than 15, then i reccomend you do that first because it'll look lifted, and it looks ricey.

I can vouch from experiance. It's harder to accelerate with 17 inch rim's smaller the rim faster the pickup. Although heres the kicker Most EM2's don't look that great without a big rim. I have 17 inch msr wheels on mine right now and I wish I had gone 18's. As far as choices check out a local tire place. I got mine from big o tires. Also if you don't have a drop this is what your car is going to look like with 17's

anyway so consider the info. I would go 18's oh and upgrade the brakes too. Stock brakes suck ass on 17's

oviously 17s are going to be heavier than 15s or 16s.. the main problem you run into with lower profile tires/rims combination is the harder it is on your entire suspension.....ie ball joints and so on. with a smaller rim and larger sidewall your tire does what its intended to do which is to absorb some of the shock on your suspension. basically your tires and your suspension will have to work in unison with each other to get the best possible performance out of them......instead of one being lazy and the other taking the full blow.

Oh...That is a better understanding of tires...I have some Tien Springs that would give me 1.3 drop...good...but not so much look...I called them today...don't have time to install it myself...

Yeah...thats understandable...I like bigger rims...but I don't want to loose any performance...

1.3-1.5 MAX drop is what i want to get, looks clean... but finding the right springs is a b***h for me since i have a sedan ex.

16" wheels is a fine upgrade in wheel size, but when you put 17" or bigger, is when you really want to consider upgrading like what others said before, brakes, suspension etc.

theres alot of light weight rims that wont slow down performance. you wouldnt really need much suspension work either since its "light weight," although it is recommended. even with lighter rims and such, imo, id still consider adjusting camber and possibly toe, just so it dont eat up tires much.

Yeah. I am going to drop 1.2 and 1.3 with Tein lowering springs. I believe I will keep my rims since I only bought it like a month ago and just get new tires. I might try to sell my tires and steelies together. Tires are like 85% threads still left. Only driven with it for 3 months.

True to that. I think Drag or SportMax makes some really light rims. I'd make sure to adjust camber. Low profiles get expensive.

I had 17" Tenzos with 205/40/17s for a while, looked great but slowwwwwwwwwwww. I went to 16" with 205/40/16s and the performance is great. (a little lower gearing)

Ive got 18's with 225/50/18 on my 02sedan and that was an upgrade from 17s with 205/40/17. The 225s were a tight fit with the teins, but are nice now that Ive got a K20 instead of the D17. Your not going to lose to much performance with the right rims if you go 17s, plus it will look nice with that drop.
