To turbo blanket or not to turbo blanket?

For those who follow my build you all know that once I return from this deployment I am going to boost my D. And I was wondering if it would be a good idea or not to put a turbo blanket on it. I will be DD'ing it dricing back and forth to work. It'll be around 180~200 hp. It'll be about 20min drive there and 20 back at 65mph and then the occasional drive to boise being around an hour at 75mph there and an hour back. Any thoughts are welcomed and i already have a turbo timer for those who are going to suggest it

I put my blanket on in the summer and take it off in the winter. for 2 reasons:
1) in the summer I tend to melt s**t under the hood.. and the hood due to housing temp and engine bay temp. Oil line got burnt and basically negated the timer, CF hood got burnt/melted/warped.. so I put on the blanket to heat isolate and header wrapped all piping cold side.

2) in the winter with more O2 in the air due to density I would like the turbo to heat the bay a little to reduce cold start conditions and to keep things warm. This in turn keeps boost levels consistent and keeps your fuel consuption in check... at least a little bit... but my bay is pretty crowded with the B series, P/s, A/c, ram horn-top mount and the traction bars, etc...

The choice is yours though. There really isn't a disadvantage to having a blanket. pick one up and try it out.

Cool thank you for your insight! Never really though about removing it for the winter months, sounds like a solid idea.

I've got one on my civic, along with wrapped headers/downpipe. It all does work pretty well, also invest in a good radiator/fan/shroud to keep your coolant low and possibly an oil cooler for those really hot days (I wish I had installed one when I built my car) Turbo hondas tend to run pretty hot.

This is excellent advice. If it gets really cold during the winter where you're at, this is what I'd do. Here in Southern California, it's pretty much hot year round. I was going to run a blanket on my Teg, but never got around to it. When I'd run the car hard for a while, it'd get really hot under the hood. I melted my vacuum line going to the turbo a few times haha.

An oil cooler is something I'd recommend as well. Get a catch can, too! Keeps things clean and tidy.

Like others have said its not really needed unless you have a interesting turbo position. Id only put one on mine if i was bored, beerless and had one laying in my garage.

you can get some great coatings these days to help keep them cool and not need a blanket.
