Well I recently took 2 trips to nyc one trip I did not have the tuneable piece on the exhaust. And my car went 310 miles and I had to fill up the tank.

The next time I went I had the tuneable piece on. and my car went 335 miles before I filled the tank. My question is how can this possibly be? Do back pressure play such a big role on my overall mpg? Or is there something else that's making such a big difference.

I took the same road. The weather was the same. And the load on the car was the same.any answers?????????????

even small differences in drivng style can have large impacts on mileage. if you were slightly more leadfooted with the exhaust at full volume than with it silenced, that can more than make a difference of 25 miles on a tank.

Yeah but you still have the same amount of gas in the car... the best way to check would be to fill up completely.... then drive untill the gas light comes on......and see how many miles you drove.. then do it again with the sliencer in...... see how that works.....

Maybe you filled the tank up further in the second run..like into the filler neck which is a bad idea.

Sounds like average mileage on my 94. I go about 320to 335 per tank. 275to295 if I spend a lot of time on the vtec side of the cam.
