I'm a little confused but, I think what would help out is; try looking up "turbo sizing" and "turbo mapping". I forgot who has the equations for the turbo sizing, I think green91 might have it.

right... youre not talking about turbine housings though, youre talking about the actual turbo itself. the best out of those 3 is the t3/t04.

t28 and td04 will spool quicker than the t3/t4 but the t3/t4 will give you more hp, and the lag isnt that much worse than a t28 (depending on trim)

that's a really, really, really broad question, so i'll give you a long answer:

since you are looking at particular kits, you're looking at turbo FAMILIES. the families are referred to as T3, T25, and Mitsu. this is very basic, because you can mix and match those a little. you can get T25 family turbos that will fit a T3 kit, for example, or T3 family turbos with Mitsu CHRA and compressor sections.

of those three families my preference is, highest to lowest, T25, Mitsu, T3. I tend toward T25 based turbos because there's alot more technology in them, they are newer, and you can make more power out of them. you just have to know what you're doing. The reason people tend to say you can make more power out of a T3/T04 is because it is a hybrid turbo. that is a T3 turbine side with a T04 (or mitsubishi) family compressor. This is the same as a GT2871R, which can make just as much power in the T25 family (and spool quite a bit faster).

Of those the T3 exhaust flange style does tend to flow more, so if you have particularly lofty goals the T3 will get you there, but since most T3 family turbos come without an internal wastegate, they package rather poorly, and most kits don't package the external wastegate very well, so you're going to have fun getting your T3 kit to do what the T3 flange can.
The T25 is the easiest to package, has an internal wastegate, and can flow upwards of 475HP (the high-end of the GT2871R). Garrett does offer a GT3076R in T25, but it is pushing the limits of the T25 packaging, and hasn't yet been found better than a GT2871R.

I don't know much about the mitsu turbos, but alot of companies prefered these before Garrett turbos hit it bigger with the resurgance of the SR20DET and the T25 turbos. alot of OEM manufacturers like Mitsu turbos for their big low end power (saab LOVES the low end). i have seen some articles on TD06-20G turbos flowing about as well as GT2871Rs on 4G63's, but i haven't looked into them any further.

i came from the turbo side of the toyota camp, so talking turbos to me is like discussing football with a sportscaster. i can ramble on all day and still not say much. "good save, bill, dat vas a good save by mike. let's hope he can bring it home"
