Here is the setup so far.
The motor is d16y8 in a 96 coupe. Vtec

50 trim .63ar exhaust .50ar compressor t3/t4
tial 38mm wastegate 11psi
2.5 Inch ss downpipe
2.5 inch exhaust with hollowed cat.
2.5 inch charge pipe with blitz BOV.

IDK about your thickness there, but i do know that .63 will lag its ass off on a Y8. I wouldve done a .48 if it were me, but its your build..

GLW your EM buld.

I also daily drive it and don't want to be be at full boost while im crusing to work. If it don't work out i will just swap the turbo.

you shouldnt be at any boost when your cruising.. the turbo wont be under load at cruising speed. im just saying, its a big turbo for your little engine and by the time it spools, it will be time to shift.

My EBAY 57/63 turbo starts spooling at 3000rpms and gets 17psi by 4700rpms. This is with Vitaras and a cast manifold. If im cruising in 5th and I punch it I get 17psi around 4300rpms. Ebay turbos arent as efficient as Garrett, precision, ect. If you racing or w.e you wont need power down low because youll launch higher.

If youre really worried about spool time make the tubing smaller. You also need to make the distance from the head to the turbo as short as possible. The air will flow out faster and spool the turbo quicker. The only downside if you might loose power up top.

^^ everyones results may vary..but this is also true..but also, those Ebay turbos are stamped different than what you get 1/2 the time.. My .42/.48 was stamped 60/63 and im sure theres alot of others out there..but some might be right on the money.

OP: If your turbo is that big, make sure your running as big exhaust to get that gas out as fast as you can..

Personally, im running full 2.5 and getting a electric cut out for track use.. I have lag on my .63 and i have no cat.

Not too bad! my 42/48 was at full spool at 4600 on a B20 so every application is different. What were you gated at? and of course this is a built engine..so your results are totally different than a bone stock Y8

Ive been running a peice of s**t OBX BOV and works fine... but, every month i take it apart and clean it, re lube it with jig-a-lube and it hold pressure just fine.

I just got it as a temp until i could find one i wanted, but since its doing fine, ill wait for it to start leaking before i get another.

well 7.5:1 compression isnt exactly going to help spool a turbo. lol I used this example to show that the turbo could spool faster with the stock compression (I think its around 9:1)

have since sold my turbo now. Looking for a .42/.48 This was the size I originally wanted, but found the .63 turbo and bought it out of excitement. Back to the original question is 1 5/8 tubing good? its not thick roll bar tubing, its header tubing from Kooks.
