I'm currently using this el-cheapo turbo timer, the background LED is kinda f**ked up and reading is not very accurate. so i'm gonna whip up a couple of bucks to get myself a new turbo timer. anybody got any recommendation. prefer something that has cool design, lighting and good functions. i'm currently eyeing on this Greddy Full Auto Timer. any opinions on it? =)

well generally the function of a turbo timer is to cool the engine down. so i guess no harm in getting one for NA cars. =)

nah a turbo timer is to keep the turbo cool and filled with cool oil not to keep the engine cool if u dont cool down the turbo its called coking will start and mess up the ball bearings in the turbo so thats wat it is for go to www.greddy.com

ok ima type this down from a book i have....

Adding a turbo timer, is a good idea to help prolong turbo life. The timer allows the engine to continue to run, even after the ignition is turned off, so that oil can flow through the turbo and cool it. If hot oil is left in the turbo housing it can solidify (called "coking"), which will leave deposits on the turbo bearings. - Super Street 2005 Buyer's Guide

i got that from that mag

There is no use for an N/A car to have a turbo timer if it has a good cooling system, oil and water.
The reason a turbo car needs a turbo timer is to let the turbo slow down after a hard drive. A turbo is spinning at 100k+ rpms and to turn the car off while its still turning that fast is like draining your oil out of your engine while its reving at 8000rpm. Also, a turbo is a huge heat sink. Letting it sit at idle isn't gonna cool it down by any more than 20 degrees or so. A water cooled turbo and or a very good oil cooler are the only things that will make a beneficial difference to cool down your oil when at idle, not a turbo timer.

My old Saab had a water cooled turbo so I only needed to let it sit for 2 minutes at most. I pretty much let it idle and waited for the fans to kick on then shut down the car when they kicked off. I didn't need a turbo timer.

ANY car N/A or turbo will benefit from leting it run for a minute before you shut it down. especially after spirited driving. it gives the cooling system a chance to catch up. if you want to kill your car quick then do just that... drive real fast then pull into a parking lot and just shut it off. it won't last 100,000 miles like that.
