I am interested in purchasing a turbo for my 2000 SI. I am pretty much intimidated for the fact that i don't know sh*t about turbos. I seen them with greddy and edlebrock. Well CC members help me out? What is legal first of all in California emissions. What exactly do i need to run a successful "everyday driving" turbo powerplant? You know extras that are not include turbo bolt-on kits. Thanks!

those extras make the kits illegal. get the base greddy kit, and be happy. but since you know nothing about boost, i highly reccomend that you NOT get a turbo, as you will almost certainly blow your motor up.

do research, ask questions, read articles, read write ups....before i even purchased my turbo s**t i first read up on how it all works, what each thing does, how it helps blah blah blah. THEN i sat down and thought about what im gonna be using this car for. daily dirver?? go with a smaller turbo. autocrosser..again a small to medium turbo is good... drag racer....go with a larger turbo. Now, if you are gonna drag or autocross your car AND keep it so you drive it everyday, i still recommend a mid sized turbo. www.homemadeturbo.com www.turbod16.com and www.hondaswap.com are all good places to read up on s**t. if i were you, id wait a year

i highly recommend you to get the Greddy turbo kit. It is a reliable kit for everyday driving and its legal. You can buy a nd piece your own turbo together but i personally dont know how strict California emissions are. But if you want something right out the box? Greddy turbo kit is the way to go.

Look for a kit with a C.A.R.B. exemption sticker. I don't know if you can even make a homemade turbo legal in Cali. I do know that the stupid sticker is necessary, though. If it's a complete kit, it should have everything you need, except that some don't come with an intercooler (it's stupid to run a turbo without IC.)

Well i am reading your input. Well i guess the only thing i could do is do my homework and see what resources are avaliable to me. Hopefully I could get my turbo then. I guess the greddy kit is the way to go!

if you must get turbo, get greddy and DONT get a boost controller... have a mechanic install it for u and dont touch anything after that until you know more... Just make sure u get the kit with the intercooler and bov so you dont break anything.. oh yeah, with the kit, you have should get a turbo timer and maybe bigger piping for your exhaust (2.5 or even 3"... it's jus a greddy kit with like 5-7psi)... I think if u get a greddy kit and a turbo timer and dont mess with it, it should be fine on it's original settings... mite wanna make sure you hit every oil change on time too and check all your fluids often.

I fully support the GReddy kit since it comes complete with everything you will need...though wont come with a I/C unless you specily..like a extra $700-$800 if i remember right....as long as you dont get crazy with increasing the boost if you get a controller or another spring for the BlowOff then you should be fine....I recommend learning about the kit you want and doing some T/C research....good luck with your decision.
