Turbo

I drive a 95 honda civic Ex coupe. I am fairly new with fixing it up, and i havent done much to it since ive gotten it last spring. It runs on a D15 vtec with about what I think somewhere around 175k miles, intake, and performance headers ( last owner didnt give me any info on them ) . Ive really been thinking about getting a turbo for it in the future, once i fix up the body and stuff on the outside, but i wanna figure out all the things im gonna need to look at for it, cause im sure i cant just buy a turbo and put it in. I know that i have to get parts into it that can stand a turbo so i not f**king other parts up. i just wanna figure things out cause i have a friend that is thinking about selling his turbo and i wanna make sure i would be fine using it if i got it.

thanks

95 ex coupe? Don't you mean D16 vtec? Should be a D16Z6. Look for the motor stamp to the left of the exhaust manifold.

Anyway, I'm not too familiar with turbo setups but I do know if you plan for any large amount of boost then it'd be a good idea to pretty much rebuild the motor with aftermarket internals. (forged pistons, rods, etc.) And i'm sure some valvetrain work is in order.

I should stop talking though I really don't know much about turbo work.

But yeah I think your motor is a d16z6

its not the original motor, last owner did a swap a little bit before i got it, and the stamp says D15B , but then again i am still fairly new with this stuff and dont know everything about the engines and stuff, still learning as i go

when buying used turbo's check for shaft play..stick your fingers into the turbo inlet and see if the turbine moves at all..up and down or side to side..any movement is bad..figure out a budget first

yeah, my friend was saying something about 500 for his, its coming out of his delsol that he got, but before i even think about getting it i wanna make sure everything i have in my hood can handle the power, and im also look on fixing up my exterior stuff before i get into my hood

175k miles are pretty high unless you want to do a rebuild..but then it'd probably be better to do a motor swap instead first..how much power is he making with his turbo kit?

i have no idea, i have talked to him to much about it, im not even sure if im gonna buy it from him, i just had the thought of if i did would my car be able to handle that, and this honda is my first car, and im going from high school into something like UTI to work on car so i am going to rebuild everything in my hood eventually once i have the money, i just have to learn and stuff

You NEED to rebuild the motor if you plan on boosting or else it is sure going to fail on you. You can rebuild with stock parts if you wish. It would be better with aftermarket rods pistons. You can run low boost safely on stock internals but if you want to put up bigger numbers then rebuild it with bigger and better parts.
