Im looking at buying a used turbo but i noticed it has some play. is that bad is that normal? what els do i look for?

it depends on how much play it has. It really isn't supposed to have any play at all, but if you're going to buy a used turbo I guess it might have just a tiny bit of play.

same here. if it hits anything its no good. needs work. if it is minium play and not major then its cool but for me personally i would take no shaft play

its not much play but its from a friend he is giving me a good deal
it just moves a bit up and down very little

as long as its not hitting the walls its okay. if its coming close to hitting the walls then i would rebuild it

Even if there is alot of shaft play if its real cheap i would still buy and then rebuild it and you have a brand new turbo!

well i bought a garret ball bearing turbo for $75 and it was still in good shape got it clean and all
