Hi all,
I'm looking at doing an engine swap (prob a vti B16A2 and turbo later).

I have a the mechanics worked out, but what is the process for dvla vehichle registration/engine numbers, mot etc..

Also as far as insurance goes, as a 24 year old with 3 years no claims, i pay £560 per 10 month, how much of a jump would you predict for a swap and turbo? (+£200 +500 +1000???)

Are there any other things to concider regarding laws and stuff?

If i'm going to do this swap and turbo its all gotta be legit, so I just want to be prepared before hand.

Thanks!

you will have to inform the dvla, you can do this by re entering the correct detail's on your V5 log book, turbo charging it i am not shore about who you would have to inform, if any one other than your insurance company, how ever if you go with some one such as adrian flux who spesh in modded car's you will prob find that your insurance should not go up so much

Thanks speedy. I got a quote, £960 with Adrian Flux which I will probably go with. Tesco wanted £1500 for the STANDARD car!!

If anyone else in UK is looking at swaps, this is the DVLA response to updating V5:

Please enter the new details in the “Changesâ€￾ section on your Registration Document (V5)/Registration Certificate (V5C). However, before our records can be amended, it will be necessary for you to provide documentary evidence to support the change.

This evidence can take the form of: -

A receipt of purchase containing cylinder capacity information for the replacement engine

Written confirmation from your insurance company.

Written confirmation by the manufacturers.

If the change took place before you purchased the vehicle, written confirmation from a garage would also be acceptable.

The Registration Document/Certificate and documentary evidence should be sent to DVLA. Only original documentation is acceptable and it will be returned after verification. If you do not have a Registration Document/Certificate, please complete form V62* which can be obtained from the Post Office® or for download from our website listed below and return it with your original letter and documentary evidence to DVLA.

If, however, you also need a tax disc for the vehicle, you can get one from your nearest DVLA Local Office by completing the form V10 (available at the Post Office®), which must be accompanied by the Registration Document/Certificate. DVLA Local Office addresses can be found on our website listed below. Alternatively, to find the nearest Local Office serving your postcode please telephone 0870 243 0444.

If the V5/V5C is not available and you are the registered keeper on DVLA records, you can apply to tax your vehicle at any DVLA Local Office using forms V62* and V10.If you are not the registered keeper you need to complete and return form V62* to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1DD to obtain a Registration Certificate. Please be aware that there is a charge of £19 for a V5C registration certificate, unless you are in possession of a V5 registration document/V5C registration certificate or the green V5/2 or V5C/2 “new keeper supplementâ€￾.

Issue of the certificate may take up to 6 weeks if the previous keeper has not notified DVLA of the sale of the vehicle. A tax disc cannot be applied for until you receive the V5C in your name. Please ensure your application is supported by the appropriate documentary evidence.
Got the engine now, just waiting for time to do the swap. Should be starting on week commencing 22 August.!
