Hi there, 19 & from MI.
I just purchased my first car which happens to be a 97 civic, auto trans.
Always wanted one and now that I've got one...well. kind of lost. I've never had a car and there are a few issues with it that should probably get taken care of within the next few weeks.
I'll probably be posting a lot of questions, but this seems like a good community so I'm not worried =)
Soo hello, how are you, etc.

Welcome.

Use google, and research before asking questions that have been covered time and time again.

What are your issues?

Only a couple big issues, I have an exhaust leak and there are a couple fuses I need to replace. My dash doesn't light up, and the guy I bought it from says it's whatever fuse goes to the instrument panel, but after reading a little on here it sounds like the aftermarket stereo could also be the issue.
I also need an upstream o2 sensor. Other than that, the drivers side door doesn't lock unless it's locked from the inside when closed (so I have to do it from the passenger side). The bumper is all screwed up, but the guy I got the car from is getting that done for me.
So I know what the issues are for the most part, my problem is I just don't really know how to do any of it myself.. :|

Just search the forums and Google. If you can't find an answer to your questions then ask. Those are really simple problems to fix regardless of it being mechanical or electrical

I can do the sensors and fuses pretty easily I'm sure..I'm mostly worried about the exhaust. I don't want to have to spend a ton of money for a mechanic to fix it if it's easy to do..but I also don't want to screw anything up.

If it's not bad and you really don't want to spend alot of money the tiger patch stuff works & you can get it at any auto parts store for about $4 and just wrap it around the leak

The dash lights shouldn't be effected by the aftermarket radio. The only thing that would be effected is your keyless entry and the domelight doesn't turn on when you open the doors. If you need help with that let me know, I just fixed that on my car but you'll need the original radio also

Well dudes. Turns out the car is a total pos. Starting shifting weird about a week into it, and pulling while accelerating like it wasn't sure what gear it wanted to be in.
Took it into the shop..
Needs a new trans and exhaust front to back.
No thanks.
Went searching for a newer civic, 05+ and found an '07 G5. All mine.
So if you know anyone wanting to overhaul a civic...

it wouldnt have been hard or that expensive to put another transmission in it as long as you didnt pay a shop to do it
and you can get an exhaust shop to make you an exhaust and put it on for like 60-100
ive never had a shop do anything to any of my vehicles i was raised in a family of certified mechanics so i can do anything to my car and truck that need to be done. but i know if you havent done anything of the sort tranny replacement may be a bit intimidating.

glad to hear you found a new ride though
did you already get the other car?
if so post pics
