Upwards facing throttle body, Cold air intake help?

i have got a EJ9 with a D14 engine which has the annoying upwards facing throttle body. and i have recently decided i want to get a cold air intake for it, and i can get cold air intakes that fit the upwards throttle body, but i dont want to have to buy another intake when the time comes to swap the engine out for something bigger. There is a black plastic box which acts as a 90 degree elbow (centre of the picture) which is inbetween the throttle body and plastic tubing and this has the same diameter as the throttle body so i was wondering whether i could buy a left facing cold air intake and fit it onto this plastic box? http://images.forum-auto.com/mesimages/738312/23042009029.jpg

The intake manifold you are describing is he exact same for the d16y7 engine, the same one in my car. To be honest with that manifold set up you won't see any gains with a full intake system. Save some money and go to autozone or advance and buy a k&n style or actual brand drop in air filter, to replace your paper one and be done with it.

You can get a CAI very cheap. There are expensive ones out there but don't waste your money on one if you're planning on swapping the engine. It won't fit correctly. By a cheap one and replace it if you swap.

see this is the one i was trying to find out whether it would fit on the black box and also in the engine bay properley http://www.aemintakes.com/images/l/AEM-21-417R.jpg

otherwise it would have to be this one but this wont fit on the other intake manifold when the engine is swapped or i buy a bigger engine civic http://www.aemintakes.com/images/l/AEM-21-413R.jpg

well yeh, surley it woldnt need to be there if there already was a cone on the end of the cold air intake? but i was trying to decide which to get because if i get the one made for my engine, i take that black box with the filter out completley, if i get the one which is made for a left facing intake manifold ill need to keep the black box on so it will fit and it will also fit 1.6 1.8 civics etc =)

This would probably be the better setup since you will have a chamber of air to use right in front of the TB. I wouldn't waste the money though.
i know, everybody says "don't waste your money" and i appreciate the thought but at the end of the day its my choice of what i spend my hard earned pennies on ;)
