Very big n00b questions about turboing a civic engine.

Why are the turbo's fixed to headers? To relieve back pressure? To provide more back pressure? I have no clue about engine or turboing them.

When you say fixed to the headers? what do you mean exactly?

They're there because they spin up and compress air by using the exhaust gases to spin a turbine. The turbine spins with the exhaust gases and on the other side of the turbo, a compressor compresses the intake air and forces it into the throttle.

turbo's need the air from your exhaust. They get some of the air that goes through the exhaust, and it is used to spin the turbo and build boost. And I think what you may be asking is why do civics, unlike many other cars use the actual stock exhaust manifolds for the turbos instead of the tubular ram horn style manifolds. If so, that is just becuase the older model exhaust manifolds on the std standard and hf civics, from 88-91 i believe, can be adapated to fit and mount turbos. I hope this helped some

Thanks guys sorry for the n00b question but I had no clue how it works. It puzzled me that is was mounted to the header but your explanation completely answer what I was asking. Thanks.

on d-series civics they use the stock manifold where the catalytic converter blots to it. U take the cat off and use an adapter plate the bolts to the manifold and u also make hols so u can bolt a turbo to it. Ive seen a couple cars like that. budget turbo kits man.
