I have the viper 791xv... and i think its stuck on silent mode

everything works fine i think... it locks and unlocks... auto starts when i press the button , blink once when i arm it

blinks twice when i disarm

but it doesnt beep and it also doesnt sound the alarm when i open the door without disarming..

Im thinking there is a simple switch somewhere but i cant find it.. i have my dash completely apart and am looking at what i believe is the brains... The big thing with viper on it.. i see no switch anywhere... there is a small button with wires coming out of it... i assume thats the button to emergency disarm it if you cant find the remote but i press it and it doesnt do anything

please help

btw i had a shop install the alarm two years ago so i dont know what they did..

sounds like the siren might be dead...try a new siren...but make sure it gets hooked up right...some are positive trigger and some are negative trigger...i will do some looking for you...check the ground on the siren first...

I've been wanting an alarm lately. Not because it's hella cool, but I'm just looking after my car. My town is seriously prolly the last place anyone would want to waste money on an aftermarket alarm, but it can't hurt to be cautious.

How much do one of the Viper alarms cost? And is install hard to do yourself? I'm assuming that's why you had a shop do it.

yeah its pretty time consuming and not easy at all... if anyone tells you its not hard then its just not hard for them...

its a crap load of wiring. As much of a diy person i am i still wouldnt really want to do it myself.. And im an electrical engineer

damn you figured it out before i had a change to answer

alarms aren't hard to install if you're into electronics but you usually don't get a warranty if you don't have an authorized person install it

i'd say that's a huge con. i guess i just want all my s**t covered. i've used warranties too many times to not value them. ;)

if you can wire a stereo and understand what you did and why...then you can do an alarm...

Lol, thieves like that sound too ;)..
nah but for real, ive seen people playing with their alarms, beeping it over and over again for attention and next week they get their subs and HU lifted.. If/when you get an alarm, dont play with it like that

i've never understood the attention thing... with an alarm.

i have two sirens, and piezos on the inside... but that's not for attention... that's so we can hear it go off from a distance. or inside a store, or whatever.

oh, and so a thieves ears bleed. that too.

you mean sirens? you can just hook up other sirens. they don't have to be the same, either. mines extra special annoying because they don't quite match... ones from the viper alarm i have now, and the spare siren is from my older audiovox. heh. but, it's loud as hell.
