Currently, I have CodeAlarm.. Which is lame because it has a really short range. So I think I'm going to get a better range alarm.

Right now, I am looking at Viper 791xv (Click me) and Compustar Click here. What do you guys think I should go with?

Compustar has a longer range, but Viper is more popular. I don't know, they both seem to be good. Car Toys told me Compustar is no good, but I think they say that only because they don't sell that brand...

The Viper is an all around better alarm with a lot of top notch modules you can add. I love mine.
The compustar is a good alarm as well. But what are you going to do, start your car from a mile and a half, call a cab when your s**t is getting jacked?

They are pretty much the same freaking thing. Its all DEI. Viper is just a name. The main difference is whether or not the pager is am/fm, or am, of fm modualted. Distance changes depending on the better frequency

i love my compustar alarm, i have the 2wss-r. im not sure what the differences are between the "as" and the "r" are but with my alarm theres a remote start, the range is really well and theres different programming modes. i personally think its the best purchase i made for my car... plus with the 2wssr and th 2wssas they have an option for a turbo timer that you can get wired up. thats what had me sold, cuz i will be boosting in the future so ill need a turbo timer and with this i dont have to have a seperate module

Most all of the remote styarts no adays can be hooked up for a turbo timer mode. Personally Viper would be easier to deal with because it is DEI

^^ Do you think it's because of too many radio signal going on or because of the building itself?

I think its becuase its just too far away. Like i can go to parking lot and if i go pretty far it wont be able to turn on and off... and thats on a full battery

i heard there are certain compustars that work for like half a mile... you may want to look into that

^^ 6000 feet, pretty close to 1 mile. But I guess it depends, I mean BlackHope121's 791vx is suppose to have 1/4 mile range. How big could a parking lot be? More than 1/4 mile? I don't know.

Shiznit, can you pm me how your alarm works? Like how it works and such? Because I like the remote start, but does it unlock the doors once you remote started it? What if people get in and try to drive away, would the alarm kill the engine to prevent the car go too far? Thanks in advance.

I have the compustar 2w-900fm system and it is great. Just less range, I would go compustar.

when the car is autostarted it still remains in alarm mode. If the door is opened the alarm will go off. You cant drive the car away cuz if you touch the brake without the key in the car will shut off.

got the 791xv for about 6 months and its not really worth it. just got my compustar 2w900fmas just the other day and installing it soon whenever i have time. i was disappointed when i got the 791 in my car. the range is not good. if you are out of hearing range of your siren you are also out of your pager range. the range is only like 2 blocks or at most is 1/8 of a mile. if you go into a big store, in the movies, or even at school and if someone broke into your car your pager will not go off. both company have basically the same features and are both great. most if not all add on modules are universal. for diy installers the price is nearly the same. also about the 2WSS-AS, there has been a lot of known cases with up close arm/disarm issues due to the spread spectrum technology.

i have a 791 in mine and i love it. they are pretty easy to work with and have many features. i dont know how much better compustar is, so no comments on that. i can also get 791s pretty cheap.
