Viper alarm

To begin, let me tell the story. When I bought my 00 Civic Si, it came with viper alarm, which I dont even know what model it is. It wasnt working well, sometimes I cannot arm or disarm the system, so I never use the alarm anymore - in other words the alarm itself is useless. Today, I took my car to Honda shop to get oil change, and they were not aware that my alarm is POS, so they locked my car. We couldn't disarm it so we disconnect the shock sensor, lights(?) and ignition(?) just so I can drive the car. Now, I dont have no idea how the prior owner of my car installed the alarm system but there's just so many wires under the panel. I would like to remove the whole system for now. Any advice where I could get a guide how to remove the system? or "how-to"? I appreciate with any help I can get.
As you can tell from my story, I'm in the market of purchasing a new alarm system. I'm looking at the Viper 5000, any input about this alarm? or any recommendations? If I'm going to install the system myself how hard is it? The price I found at directed.com is $350.00, is there any other place I can find cheaper price?

Buy a new alarm, and ask them to remove the old one when they are installing the new one.

just had the 5000 installed and its actually a nice system, no faults, goes off when its suppost to..the lcd screen is really cool and easy to read. only downside is the range/sensitivity. the range says about 1/4 mile..which isnt bad, but it sometimes can only get HALF of that depending on the terrain. the sensitivity isnt great either, i have mine maxed up and it still takes a pretty hard hit to set it off..but i guess u could always buy a seconadry shock sensor.

go compustar. i had a viper alarm for 3 years then switch to the 791xv couple months ago and im still not satified with the range. like mk97 said its not really 1/4 especially depending on the location of the car and all the objects around it. i know a few people personally with compustar and bunch of people only says that the advertise range is pretty accurate even with objects and being indoors. evena couple of the non lcd compustar can beat the best viper alarm range. im going compustar sometime this month.
