I am fixing to get an alarm on my car. I have gone to all the custom car shops in town to get prices and i have found compustar and viper to be kinda close. I dont know which is better as far as protection goes. So I would appreciate it if you could let me know if i should go with the viper or the compustar. Thankz.

I've never heard of Compustar but viper is a DEI product that make good alarms usually.

What are you looking to get out of the alarm? If you are going to go with two way pager Viper's dont get s**t for range. I know someone with one and it doesnt even reach a block. I am doing a compustar two way pager this summer and they get good range. I have a viper alarm in the past and really like it but range is something I would like to have. If it cant get a block in open range from my garage to bedroom/basement would be nice...

So, two way pager = compustar otherwise I really did like my viper. Oh, let a pro install it. I know a moron that fried THREE ECU's installing his own compustar, lol

compustar > any dei and pretty much any alarm

make sure u get the pager. it very helpful. the features are basically the same. both are great quality. the range is the difference maker. viper is only 1/4 mile away. compustar depending on model.. there are model with ranges from 1/4 mile up to little over 1 mile. but if your a mile away and someone broke into your car but by the time u get to your car it is probably gone.. lol but better safe then sorry. the range for the compustar is legit. i got a viper alarm, im upgrading to a pager viper alarm. the reason why because just about all the harness on it is plug and play. if i got a compustar i would had to pay for installation.

So basically yall would recommend compustar over viper only because of the range of the two way pager? At first i am just gonna get the basic one of either one and then upgrade to a pager this summer.

hmm i have the omega echo2 . i dont know if they have that in your area. But it has a 2 way pager and i could lock or set off my alarm pretty far. i was in the bleaches at a football game and i saw my car so i set it off and my car was in the back of the parking lot. how much is the 2 alarms your looking at ?

which models were u looking at.. im not very familiar with the compustar units. but for viper alarms if u upgrade to a higher model. just about all the harness are the same so its a simple install that u can do yourself.

from my current experience with my viper 2 way pager alarm (790xv) its been great, when i'm inside a mall or in school the remote works fine. About the range on my viper alarm, it is great i've gone the 1/4 of mile and it works perfectly, so personally i dont know why people are sayin that the range is sh*t cuz at least on MINES it is great. I dont know why the range is such a big issue cuz lets assume some1 breaks into your car and your about a mile away and your pager goes off, even if you run fast as hell theres no way your going to get there in less than 4 minutes and by then your car is gone...
so whats the point in having 1 mile range if theres nothing you could do about it? :what:

The compustar i was lookin at was the 1wam-a for 200 and then i can at the 2-way later for 120.
The Viper was a basic one with locks for 254 and then upgrade to the791, or i could go ahead and get the 791 for 387.

ask them about the 2W900FM. that has little over a 1/2 mile range. i would stay away from the spread spectrum, there been a lot of post that people have issues with them arming/disarming upclose. the only differenct in dei and compustar is range. it all comes down to what u like. both are great company, great service and reliable.

cifford is just a waste.. it is not much different from viper and your paying 100-200 more for little stupid options and high tech features. all the clifford add ons for is a rip off prices. even dei the make of clifford, basically most of the dei add ons will not work with clifford.
