Well I went to www.hazone.com and under how - to I followed the directions to install the vtec activation light unfortunatly (this is not stated) the instructions are for 96-00 civic. I learned this after I started the project. The information is good on what to buy from radio shack except for the tap-in clips which are a piece of crap. Do not buy tap in clips they will not work thus a waste of time all togethor!!! Do not follow the instructions if you have a 92-95 civic (mine is a 93) the vtec wire into the ECU is not in the second plug and it is not the green wire with the yellow strip. After tearing out my ecu and looking at the wire did I find this out. The VTEC wire for a 93 civic is in the last plug from you or plug A. (26 pins) the wire is in 4th slot and is orange with a white stripe. I had to ghetto rig the wire to wire my blue LED in becouse the tap-in clips do not work. I used a wire stripper and stripped about a 1 mm bare patch and then connected my LED wire to it by wrapping it around and then using electrical tape finished connecting the two wires. other than those problem if you are looking to wire in a vtec activation light in a 92-95 civic the instructions are great to a point. follow my directions above when it comes to the ECU. Any questions post a reply.

Yeah, its a cool little add on to make you car a little more unique. My friend who owns a 2 door Acura Legend wants me to do it for him as a x-mas gift its not bad if you have an hour and 12 bucks to spend on supplies. And trust me I feel you bro, about the money on others and none for you. I am watching my bank account go down and none of its comin my way! Grrr. Grinch all the way! have a merry cristmas guys.

it screwed my up too, when I started this project I thought it was for a 92-95 but the wiring diagram for the ECU is different than a 92-95 than explained on this page. If you discover what wire is your vtec wire coming from your ECU in what ever honda you drive you can make this mod. Just a matter of which wire goes to your vtec solenoid.

I did that a while ago....i tapped off the vtec activation pin on the ecu, and ran a small wire under the dash to the left my my steering column, put in a brite blue large led...by drilling a hole in an extra consol control thing, u know like the ones for cruise control or dimmer for dash lites, etc..well i had an extra empty one so i put the lite in there then ran it to GND...when i hit vtec the lite comes on nice and brite...esp at night...and when i race ppl they can see it light up the whole side of my interior lol
i also put a small "VTEC" white decal underneath the lite for added appearance :D was quite pleased considering how well it works...

oh, note, dont just run it directly to GND if its just an LED, u have to put a resistor (around 220 ohms) in place as well.

I can contribute to the electrical side of things.

If you hook the LED directly between your ECU VTEC wire and GND, you will burn out the LED and probably do damage to your ECU. The reason for this is that LEDs have a very very low resistive load (ohms) and it's almost like shorting the circuit.

Instead, put a resistor in series (ECU VTEC to LED+, LED- to resistor, resistor to GNT) to control the circuit. Now the problem is: you can't just buy any LED and resistor. You need to match the ratings.

A 220ohm resistor will run about 54mA of current through the LED. Most LEDs are rated at like 20 or 30 mA. Here's the approximations that I came up with:

For 12V automotive applications:
~400ohm resistor -> 30mA
~600ohm resistor -> 20mA

Radio Shack sells automotive application 12V LED's that have 620ohm resistors already integrated into them. For ease... I'd go that route. That's what I did. You just have to decide if you like that look or not.

I'm using Office Depot clear colored file tabs and a plain white paper print out of "VTEC" to put in behind the gauges.
