My 97 HX doesn't say VTEC anywhere either. I've only seen the actual VTEC words on the valve covers of the DOHC engines. I dunno for sure though. Here's mine (a little cleaner).

I believe the 94-95 civic ex had the VTEC on it. And the DOHC VTEC civics, preludes, integras, have them on it. The 6th gen civic won't have it on it's valve cover. Just know this, if you got an EX, assuming you have a 5th gen +ex YOU HAVE VTEC. Dont' know about the earlier gens. The only reason you wouldn't have vtec is if the previous owner swaped out the motor.

STOP ASKING IF YOU HAVE VTEC OR NOT. lol. How many threads has there been about this? Look at engine tech and look for the engine code sticky.

heh, the solonoid ur lookin for is actually in the head itself..i believe anyway..if its a D16Y8..thast what ive got an ive got vtec....check right where ur tranny connects to the motor..theres usually a little metal plate that tell ur engine code (correct me if im wrong please, im running on very little sleep, lol)
