Vtec Question....

well....it depends on what codes you are throwing. if you are throwing a vtec-related code, obviously the vtec will be affected. most codes are going to affect the engine, and how it runs. i wouldnt really say flat out that throwing codes will stop vtec from working.....but i would advise that any and all codes be fixed ASAP.

any code that makes the engine go into safe mode will defeat the vtec mechanism.

my o2 sensor went out, would that mess with it ?

that probably put it into safe mode, so yes it would.

would a cel throwing a code 67 which is a catalyst system not working properly make the vtec not work??

Ya, from my understanding, that will put you in safe mode...cant you feel if vtec is working?

against popular belief it will kick vtec with a hollow cat., mine is hollow (i know you-->:slap:<--me) but it was done while i was deployed (me-->:slap: <--my brother), but anyways, it still kicks and he emptied the whole f**ken thing, not just a hole through it, he took a drill and a nice sized bit and swirled it throught the inside, oh well.

i work at a honda dealer, according to one of the techs if the v tec system will be affected by the code, for instance no oil pressure :( your engine speed will be governed at the point were it would normaly come on.

i don't know about the newer models, but yes if the CEL comes on, vtec is disabled until you reset it.
