Hey everyone,
this saturday and sunday we made a sub box for my Hatchie. Yet its not dressed up, but you'll get the idea. Tell me what do you think =)

Pics taken with mobile camera :(

This is how it all started

Materials bought, everything measured, first parts cut out and put together

Making sure everything fits till millimeter - it does.

HB trunk turns out so f...g small but still - workarounds etc

Measuring measuring...

Fits just perfectly, holds tight looks good =)

Making sure the capacity is right...

Top of the box also acts like rack that should be there

Sub walls

Second one

Beer break, one step towards finish

Middle part, for AMP/Stickers...

Another check

More measurement

Woofer holes

Box for the speakers so they sound better and live much longer

Woofer measurements

How does it look ing a trunk

75% done =) No time left, saturday evening, cloth shops closed :( final tasks left for next weekend

33cm woofer :D

Will post more pics when it will be dressed up =)
Capacity, location etc is just great, sounds perfectly - anyone interested in buying one?

not bad.. should put the amp on the floor with some led's through the bottom to light it up a little. and possiblly flush mounting the amp to hide wires.. but thats IMO looks good though

Don't take my criticism wrong, I like the overall design but I'm gonna go with what aznburn210 said about flush mounting the amp, maybe with a small cooling fan mounted behind and just the outsideof the amp showing.

I say flip the amp over, and run the wires underneath. Should look good when you carpet it though.

Yea, that is an amp in the middle, but the wires etc looks worse than imagined im thinking of removing it from the middle and put another sub in there =)

I totally agree with you, amp looks worse than it should and to fix that up it will be removed and replaced with a) 3rd sub b) nice red JBL logo. Bottom of the trunk covered with shiny decorative aluminium and under the box a couple of neons (there is about 5 - 7cm free space under the box).

Will post final pics of sub this weekend!

Thank you for your opinions

nice job! How much did the materials cost? And is it a difficult job?
Hehe this is the most interesting part =)

Materials:
12mm veneer - 12$
15mm veneer - 10$
Wire connectors(2x) - 5$ each = 10$
Internal wires - 2$
Cloth (most expensive part - will need approx 3list/m) - 12$ (140mm x 100mm) = 36$
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total: 70$ + about 50$ spent on beer

To make this kind of box yourself you DEFINATLY will need a good advice from a professional carpenter. Without his support that box wouldn't fit that microscopic trunk.

If the form is much more simple, then there are no problems to make it yourself ofcourse.

If you have the parts i assume its not hard i'm in shop class at school and that stuff isnt hard if you have tools . . my question is what kinda wood did you use? Pine it looks but i could be wrong? How long did it take?

the most commonly used and best wood for sub boxes is MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) its a little pricey. but it has good resonance and produces a nice sound when properly sized, constructed, sealed (or ported) and covered. A box can make or break a system, better the box, better the sound. A qualitly box can make a crappy sub sound good; and a poor box can make a nice sub sound like crap
