I'm so goddamn beat from chopping down trees and hauling them around for 7 hours, I'm gonna do this the lazy way....

By the way, I'm going back to the self car wash place (where I washed it) but with Engine Degreaser this time and possibly Simple Green sometime within the next week or so.

Here's my thread about it (gives background info on what went down):

The only before picture I have (It LOOKS clean but was HELLA dirty in person):

Here are the pics (It doesn't look much cleaner than the before but it is, trust me. Pics don't do justice. You have to see it in person.):

I'm going back within the next week or so with engine degreaser to get off the really really grimy s**t that's been sitting for years. Also need to take a toothbrush to certain places as well. So polishing would be a waste of time/money right now.

Looks a lot better than before.

Good Job :thumbs up

Degreaser is safe to use it on the whole engine bay. Just make sure you spray it off afterwords.

Pretty clean, focus a little bit more on the words on the power steering reservoir and the timing belt cover.

put your headshield back on and paint your valve cover...

replace all rusty bolts, and sand/paint all rusty brackets then you're good

Def looks a lot better. The thing that sticks out the most is the bracket towards the front of the bay. If you can high temp paint the oem heat shield (if you still have it and it still works) then put it on.

Technically its actually better for performance to keep the heat shield on since it keeps the manifold hotter and of course, hot air moves faster then cool air.;)

Heatshield rusted off and the bottom hole on the heatshield rusted to a semi-circle so it's not even a closed hole anymore. And the bolt that it's supposed to bolt be bolted down with is so rusted that it flakes away when I try to remove it (still on the header). So I have to get a new header, or deal with no heatshield (which I have for months).

laugh my ass off, hot air makes the car faster ? lol heatsheild blocks off the hot air from the header so it wouldnt suck in hot air

:rolf: :rolf:. You do realize you read his comment wrong don't you...? He's saying it's better to keep the heatshield on since it would lower the amount of hot air seeping to the rest of the engine bay.

And appreciate the comments guys ;).

Actually, if I can somehow manage to get the VC back to looking clean, I might just polish it up and leave it silver. I don't really like painted D-Series valve covers to be honest. DOHC's are the only valve covers I enjoy seeing painted.

You mean where it dips down between each "runner" or whatever you call the little dips on the intake mani under the fuel rail? Omfg that's like the ONLY dirty spot you can see on the upper half of the engine. I have to get behind the valve cover too before the fuel rail and injectors. I'm just gonna hit it up with engine degreaser and let that sit for a while to eat that s**t away.
