Nothing fancy but I figured I'd make a thread out of it for fun and for memories. Took it back to the self car wash today except this time I had a brand new can of Super Tech Engine Degreaser. Used the entire can on the valve cover, head, block, and by the intake manifold . DEFINITELY cleaned up the cluttered up s**t that's been sitting there. But I still have a lot to do. I'll probably go back except with a scrubby thing next time and a few more cans of engine degreaser.

Here's the other thread showing what it looked like with JUST engine cleaner:

Here's what it looks like after engine degreaser (may not notice much but it's MUCH MUCH cleaner in person):

And I can finally read the D16Y8 engine stamp again! :rolf:. Before with all the grime and s**t on the block, I couldn't see it.

did you spray it down with water afterwards...? did you cover anything up. I'm looking to clean up my engine bay this week, i'm just afraid of spraying water into the bay, even with things covered up.

What I did to prep:
- Disconnect and remove battery
- Double bag intake filter
- Double bag distributor
- Triple bag ends of spark plug wires (I only triple bag'd because we double bag'd the first time and the plug wire ends still got wet)

Make sure you tape things REAL tight. And obviously don't spray directly into/onto electrical components (like sideways into the fuse box where the wires come out or into the bag'd things). Car started up perfectly fine with no issues this time and the first time.

And yeah I soaked all the grimy s**t in engine degreaser and let it sit for 5 minutes, then rinsed it off. Then I put in another $2 and spend 2.5 mins using the engine cleaner and the other 2.5 mins on rinse all over again just to get other stuff I didn't last time.

Yeah you don't HAVE to cover anything but it's safe to. I read up on Honda-Tech a lot before I did this and found a few people that haven't covered anything each time they've washed their engine bays and haven't had problems at all.

I'm still really really really happy with the outcome. It's so much cleaner than it used to be AND I can see where my engine leaks oil now (if it does).

I've only been focused on the grimy grimy stuff. Now I gotta go back to the self car wash AGAIN but with more gans of degreaser and a few scrubby things and/or toothbrush and get at the rest of the stuff. Like 95% of the grimy/thick stuff is gone now.

Thanks :thumbs up.

And again, I'm pretty firm on not painting the VC but we'll see. If I can get the block, head, and IM cleaner, I MAY paint the VC. But if I can get away with polishing up the VC and restoring back to OEM color, I'd do that.
