What Are My Shift Points

I have a 99 Civic EX. Someone once metioned shift points? What are they and what are mine? When i drive I always hit the redline then shift. Are these the best shift points for racing. (7000 rpm). Or is there a better place to shift.

U would actually have to get the car on the dyno find out ur best shift points, but since thats a waste of money just to find that out just shift as close to redline as u can.

i usually try to shift between 6.6k and 6.8k (i have a 6th gen EX also) and it seems to work great

i've found that on my ej8 i lose power over ~6800 rpm... so i try to shift around there.

I have a 2000 ex and here are mine..

1st gear = 26mph
2nd gear= 60 mph
3rd gear = 90mph
4th gear = 123 mph
5th gear= ????

these numbers are at the rev limiter 7200 rpms

damn youse being able to go 120+ my car tops out at 120... not power wise, but i hit a speed govoner. when im really on things i usually shift around 6.5 - 7 (i too, have a 6th gen ex).

but as J-bird said, you would prolly have to get on a dyno to see where your true optimal shift points are.

yeah, on my ride i top out at 120mph in 4th gear... as soon as i drop it in 5th gear, i hit the topspeed governor and get the fuel cutoff... bah
