Everybody I see with a turbo has that damn hks blow off vavle. Is there something special about this or it is really good. Also what are some good blow off valves for sound. Is it true that with the greddy kit at only like 6 psi does that mean the blow off valve will not be loud at all? Please somebody explain. Thanks

well basicly the more pressure, the louder the sound. i think its gay when ppl want turbo for that sound, or a specific bov for the sound. get the one that works the best.

I researched this topic quite a bit, as i was moving from draw-thru and a bypass to blow-thru and a blow-off valve. Personally i went with an HKS SSQV, and sadly i'll never get to hear it on my car. I was looking at quite a few other brands, including the Greddy type S and the Tial BOV, and none of them really seemed to flow the amount of air required. The greddy specifically says not to use the BOV if you're making over 400hp, which i was planning on easily passing and the Tial seems way to small to be effective when pushing the kind of air my turbo will. The HKS will flow a large amount of air, enough to work at 600+hp, and also has a dual valve setup, to easily release small amounts of boost when in low boost conditions. It's kind of a best of both worlds.

To most, especially imports, any major name blow off valve will be good enough, so most make a decision based on sound. Most people like the loud sound of the HKS, mainly because of all the damn supras using it =)

The HKS is an excellent one. The tial bov is actually good too. It's 50mm, and as far as BOVs are concerned, that's big. It's also expensive. Too expensive for me, so Im going with an HKS copy.

There is also those cheap-o generic one's on ebay. My brother has one and they do work. They also have a VERY unique sound.

a 1g dsm bov that has been crushed can hold over 20 psi and you can get them dirt cheap. otherwise, go with your ear, be it ricey or not, you can pick out the sound you like.

:werd: that's what i've used for all of my dsm's. the 2g bov's are plastic so it wouldnt work. you have to be carefull when you crush the 1g bov's though. too little and it wont perform, too much and it's ruined.

I just bought a greddy type S. From what I hear, they sound different on every car.

They should sound slightly different on every setup, because there are a ton of things that effect the sound (boost pressure, flange size, pipe size, location, etc), but each blow-off valve is going to have a unique sound to it as well.

You wont get the "supra" sound just by going with an HKS SSQV, but it will sound more like it than a Tial would.

off topic a bit but i thinks its f**king hilarious when people hear a 4banger with exhaust or intake and say that they're just wannabe v8, but they'll never sound like one.. just funny to me... that's all...
