What ECU?

I'm swapping my B18A1 into my OBD1 hatch and always thought I had to get a chipped ECU. I've been reading though and is there an ECU that will work plug and play, no chipping required? Motor will be converted to OBD1. What ECU can I use?

The one you already have, just get it "chipped"

I got a P28 right now, no ECU came with the motor. I'm curious because if I can have an ECU that doesn't need to be chipped then that would be most ideal. The guy that can tune/chip it for me is a couple hours away, and I don't want to have to trailer my car there.

No, you need to research about your ecu...all you need is the correct map loaded

pgmfi.org will help you understand

If you want the correct ecu. Just get an OBD1 P75 ecu out of an integra. It will run it just fine.

If not.. just get the P28 chipped with an LS map.

That's what I was thinking. I was reading that it's easier to chip P28's than others though?

It is the same chipping process regardless of the ecu if it is obd1 and USDM.

Hello fellow Canadian!

If you want to chip your P28, look at this article here:

http://www.hondatuningmagazine.com/tech/0506_ht_ecu_tuning/index.html

All parts can be purchased for a decent price from this place:

http://www.moates.net

The chipping kit (minus the tools like soldering iron) costs about $20, but then you'll need to either buy a ROM burner or have a shop program it for you.

If you do it yourself there's a bunch of binary files which are basically stock basemaps for your b18a1, that can be found to download:

http://forum.pgmfi.org

Then you can edit them with Crome or Uberdata (i prefer Crome) to change your rev limit, add launch control, shift light, etc,. If you're new at this though, i'd recommend having a performance shop program the chip for you.
