Im relocating my head unit and going with an OEM CF look double din block off plate. and im thinking about putting some guages in there, more specifically some 2 1/16" Autometer CF series guages. but i was wondering what would be 3 useful guages for me (i know i dont really need any, but what would be practical to have)

i was thinking
air/fuel
oil pressure
dunno on a third one, maybe voltmeter? im not sure, which is why im asking!

well im not going boost, and im reallly doing this cuz i think that the double din plate will look awkward all alone in that hole so i wanna fill it with some guages. and if someone would be so kind as to tell me what exactly a voltmeter tells me? and why it is important.

also, could someone tell me the advantages/disadvantages to having electric or mechanical gauges?

what mods do you have that you want to put gauges in, honestly i wouldn't waste the $$ if you dont' intend to do boost, or nitrous, hell if you want to fill it i'll sell you my dvd player and screen for 250 shipped ;)

lol, i'll pass on the dvd player. not really interested in having one in my car ;)

and i have basically no mods, (just intake and axleback) but i'm swapping next year and building a gsr.

honestly i'd wait then bro, those gauges aren't going to do you any good, or any info that the car won't already tell you, i like the dark upper counsel area personally

well i dunno, i think it will look good, i still think having just this

in there will look plain, so as you can see in my uber sweet ms paint skillz that guages would look alright in there. and just for reference the guages will be similar to this.

ok since you asked.. oil pressure is nice i guess, i have one.. but i just worry about s**t on nitrous...

these are the gauges i have and why

oil pressure - Electrical with remotely mounted pressure switch.. not really needed.. but make me feel better (wire not run to the sender yet no time)

nitrous pressure - Mechanical with nitrous isolator fitting, i have a heater so i fire it up before im going to run when its cold out i need the gauge to tell me when its cooked up enough

fuel preassure - Electrical with remote sender, i think this was the most expensive gauge i have constantly monitor fuel pressure purchased because of the fuel pump and regulator.. also helped me notice when my factory pump started to break up on nitrous

EGT - Electrical with remote sender, measures the temperature of exhaust gasses to tell you how the motor is running (rich or lean) everything is run for mine but i need to tap and weld the mount onto the header.. thisreplaces the air fuel gauge with something usefull...

voltmeter- Electrical not really needed.. i just had it laying around.. measures the voltage of the electrical system..

Mechanical - cheaper but mostly used OUTSIDE passenger compartment.. some use isolators to make for safe interior mounting but again primarily for external.. EX: if you wanted a fuel pressure gauge mounte don the fuel rail under the hood you would use mechanical..

Electrical - more expensive.. are electrically mounted to senders located remotely under the hood wired back to the gauge.. can always be mounted anywhere.. and ive found to be more reliable.. some of the mechanical isolators can really lose acuracy easily (nitrous pressure is an exception mechanical with an isolator is fine). EX: if you wanted a fuel pressure gauge IN the car electrical is the way to go.. (for the record you could use mechanical gauge with an isolator electical is just better IMO)..

putting useless gauges in just for looks is a definite ricer move. save your money and buy something useful.
