I am dying to get a bike. I wanted to get suggestions as to which cc bike I should begin to ride on. I initially was gonna go straight for the 600cc Gixxer or CBR or r6 but my ex, who's been riding many years, suggested I start on a 250... :roll:

Now... I'm left debating.:what::2confused
I know I will outgrow the 250 in a few months but.. idk anymore.. Please help.

Thanks in advance, CC.

For your first bike 250. Hands down. You will end up on the pavement with a 600 I can feel it. Getting bored in a couple months is the worst excuse I hear people constantly give. 250's are ones of the most popular bikes because of being excellent for beginners and I have never heard of anyone having a problem selling their 250 when they felt the need to upgrade.

I can't really say anything about this but I would like to say that the first bike I ever had was also my first vehicle. It was a very nice Honda, black leather...shiny chrome. It was soo long ago. Don't know the cc's but it was beautiful and I actually never got crazy with it. just used it to get around....damn. now I want it back! :drive:

I think i'd advise a 250 just to learn everything you can before getting into a crotch rocket

I've gotten on the back of someone else driving maybe 3-4 times.. On my own, I've gotten on 2 1000's (one cbr the other a yamaha.. But i obviously didn't rly go toooo much past letting it coast down the street or in the parking lot on neutral.. barely had to touch that thing and it rode itself practically..

probably go for kawasaki's new 300 its got better torque over the 250 which makes highway riding alot safer.

Thanks so much. I appreciate it. I'll look into it. :thumbup:

Thanks for your suggestions, Lethal and Speed.. everyone.

I'm looking at a cbr 250 =)

From the research I've gathered I like the 250's. like lethal said, they're great beginner bikes. So what if you get bored of it soon, just trade it in for a bigger bike or sell it. I know plenty of riders with 600cc bikes, even 1000cc bikes that also have 250's for daily commute and gas mileage. Your first concern for a first bike should not be speed and power IMO. It should be reliability, weight, handling, and functionality (comfortable riding position, etc)

The ninja 300 does look good though. I'm just turned off by the price.

yeah the ninja is pricey especially when you can get a used 250 for 200-300 bucks but if your looking for something new that's the way to go.

I had never ridden a bike before a few weeks ago and rode a 250. It wasn't fast but it was still a lot of fun (I weigh a lot more than you). I don't see the harm in starting with a 250, you might get bored after a few months or a year but it's also less of an investment and you'll have a better idea of what you like/don't like when if you decide to sell and upgrade.

Wouldn't be a bad choice. Whatever you get though... Post it up here.

in my state its required to go through a 22 hour motorcycle riding class before you can get your licence so if its not required in your state i would still look into training classes.
